Oh CC, what a scary thing! My children's school is on lock down this week too. Somebody wrote an "I'm gonna bring a gun to school" note in a bathroom at the end of last week. The kids have to be escorted if they are traveling to any pull out events like music lessons or TAG classes. It was a copycat thing. Another school district near here had the same thing a couple weeks ago. You can keep your kids home and let them get an unexcused absence, but our district is being very proactive in searching the buildings, monitoring students, etc. They take every threat as real and react accordingly, and I always kind of feel the kids out on what they think is going on. The thing I fear is that all these wiseguys who think it's funny to write these messages will give the community a "boy who cried wolf" complex, and that someday there might be a troubled child who really intends to do harm and his threat will get ignored. You just don't know what to think or do. I agree with you on the teachers too. They have so much more on their plates then just the 3 R's.

On a brighter note(literally), I'm loving the sunshine here!! I even washed my car yesterday afternoon!

Oh Shawn ~ I've missed you! You're the coolest.

Scary day yesterday - Shorty's middle school went on lock down at 2:30 due to a report that a student had a gun on campus. The response was immediate and thorough and I believe the students were safe at all times. The campus search didn't reveal any weapons. What a relief that was.

Shorty has a cell phone and he sent a text message to me at 3:25 asking what was going on. Up to that point I didn't know anything was going on. It was supposed to be a track practice day so I wasn't at the school yet. I ran up there to find the building surrounded by police cars. Gosh but that will yank a parent's heart right out. I called Shorty and, thank God, he answered. But he whispered so quietly, saying that they were supposed to be completely quiet. I was relieved to hear his voice but so scared to wonder what was going on that they had to be so quiet. His entire math class was shut into the one person bathroom that his classroom was lucky to have. Most of them don't have a bathroom. I sent his teacher a Thank You card today. Even though it turned out that nobody was in danger, the teacher didn't know that and he sprung into action, doing what he could to keep his kids safe.

Teachers today are oh so much more than just teachers. They have to be everything to our kids: Teacher, Parent, Protector, Mentor.

I'm not even waiting for Teacher Appreciation Week to tell Shorty's teachers how great they are. Over the weekend we're going to put gift bags together for them to take to school on Monday.

If waterboarding is allowed I am sure McCain could take 'em but Obama always has that look (quiet restraint maybe) like if he could let his guard down for just a second he could really unleash a can of whoop a%$!
I am such a sucker for Scholastic Books. I sent in a order today that even made me raise my eyebrows at the amount. I will have to make sure the teachers let me know when they come in so I can carry them for the kids. They just love reading and when I see them sharing a book together it makes me believe I have done a kick a%$ job teaching them to appreciate books.
Speaking of books ... was in the local Starbucks the other day and noticed they are promoting a book called Beautiful Boy. A father questions what went wrong, how he missed the signs etc of his son's slip into the world of drugs. I read a few passages and really was taken by the writing - next stop in the book store I am all over this one.
Have a great Super Tuesday 2 all.

No fair. Hillary wins that one in a landslide.
