Ohhhhhh--a cocktail party--how very cool are you. Whatever you choose put a little glitter at the corner of your eye and you'll be the hit of the show .
I'm hoping to have a fancy schmancy dinner party Saturday night for some friends. I want to come up with a FABULOUS menu and then set the table all a glitter--we'll see what happens. May be mac and cheese by the fireplace .
Have fun LUV--tell us about it when you get on again!!!

The PTO doing Santa letters--what a great idea d! Wish I would have had that idea when the kids were in elementary.
Silver, I have never been to Marshalltown, but will remember Rube's if I ever get there. I LOVE a good steak.
I have a "cocktail" party to go to tonight. Can't decide what to wear. I so infrequently attend things like this. I was in the mood to go last week, but could care less today!
I think I'm going to try the question and answer one this year. That sounded fun. I have done a poem in the past "Twas the night before yada yada".
Okay--100 letters to santa to answer today at the PTO...thanks goodness for volunteers...

Thanks for the perspective everyone. I'm glad to see so many feel the same about the 'brag' letter style. Great ideas on making them funny and not your normal update. To late for me to get it together for this Christmas but plenty of time to plan for next year.
Winter storm warning here. Seen reports of massive blackouts all through the lower midwest. I know my kids are praying for a snow day.
Luv when I see you listed for Iowa I think of Rube's Steaks near Marshalltown ... mmmm! I used to be a frequent visitor of Marshalltown in my 'work from an office' days.

Okay, maybe I'm evil, but I only send a "family update letter" to the people who send theirs to me. I truly hate those bragging letters. I like to get little updates of how everyone is and if some special thing happened, but I don't need(or want) to hear every gory detail of the past year.
I have a friend who does a hilarious multiple choice letter every year. She will make a partial statement or pose a question as to a happening in their lives and give you 4 choices. She always has some very strange choices and some are actually the truth. I look forward to that letter!
Ice is heading our way again tonight. I hate ice. I'd rather have 2 feet of snow. Oh, and the TV died this morning.
Christmas newsletters - I like them if they give a brief update of the family, especially with funny annecdotes. The ones that are simply a page of bragging do get on my nerves. My husband likes when we get them, but doesn't really want US to do one. No matter what I write, my kids hate it. (of course, they are teenagers). One of the things I do some years is just a small two paragraph update. I print these 4 to a page and cut the paper in quarters. I use a gluestick to attach them to left inside panel of our Christmas cards. It's a little look into our family for the year without being too much.
