Speaking of cancer--I saw a show yesterday where a man invented a system in his GARAGE that would put nano sized electrodes into cancer cells to kill them. The nanoids (?) are drawn to each other and when they connect they emit an electric shock that destroys the cell. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING...they tested it on an Australian rabbit with liver cancer and in 90 seconds the cancer was cured (not sure why an Australian rabbit but I'm sure there was a DNA connection there). There are trials (non human) going on all over the US and heres the kicker. Human trials are projected in 3-5 years and the man that invented the technique has leukemia and will probably not survive till then.
Can you imagine the gift this man will leave as his legacy if this is truly a cure for cancer. Amazing....d
Why Shawn, did I strike a nerve there?! Like you, my hubby and I think it's absolutely ridiculous to pay a professional athlete sums like that when you think of what that money could do to improve the world. Imagine what $275 mil could do in the fight against cancer......
Worth that kinda money??? ... HELL (can I say that?) NO!!!!
He maybe (OK he is....) the best player in MLB (at the end of his carreer, ever) but he's 'dumber than a box of rocks' TM and sucks in the postseason.
I love baseball but noone playing a 'Freaking Kids Game' is worth more than Stay-at-Home Parents, Educators (not Administrators), and Healthcare Professionals (eg Nurses, Midwives, etal) just to name a few.
The league minimum is around $300,000 (that's MLB not minors, they dont make jack)
$275 Mill for 10 yrs HELL (can I say that again??) NO!!!!.
Would I sign him as my starting 3b if by some freak of nature a Steinbrenner spawn and I switched bodies (ss If I owned the Cubs ,eg switched places with some moron from the Tribune Co- A Ram isnt moving off the hot corner for A Rod)?,
does my baseball hobby contribute to this insane madness?
and will it continue? Yes, Yes and Yes (but No he's not and prolly been shooting up too much HgH, Steroids and popping greenies to be worth that much $$$$, in a rational world

Looking at everyone's peeves I see a kind of common theme: People who buy a gift because they feel they have to, but don't really get into the spirit of giving the gift. If you TRULY give someone a gift, you make sure that it is something you feel they will enjoy, that won't require extra work for them(like buying batteries), and that you make getting the gift a special experience(like having the company you order from gift wrap it). It's that "loss of what the season really means".
Shawn, did you see the A-Rod interview on 60 Minutes? Is he worth that much money? He thinks so. Please!!!
Peeve #4 - When people purchase electronic/remote control gifts requiring batteries but fail to purchase the batteries for the gift. Don't know about the rest of you but I don't enjoy seeing my children completely excited to get a remote control something only to be crushed because the batteries were not included. Contrary to belief ~ we do not have a drawer in our house for every battery size available out there. Oh .. and sending me an informal email telling me what batteries to have on hand for your gift is bad form no matter what planet you are from.
Hope everyone made it through the weekend unscathed.

Peeve #3--people that give small children gift cards. All that means is I spend the next four days hearing "when are we going to the store mommy--when, when" and then we walk around with me saying "No you don't have enough for that, no you don't have enough for that" and then invariably I end up spending money to round up since I've got about 10 cards now with 67 cents each on them.....
Just buy the kids a toy--they'll love it--doesn't matter what it is-- go to the website and pick something....just don't extend my holiday buying experience...
