I've always respected folks that go back to school without the benefit of full time attendence. It is such a commitment and having that amount of discipline is something I seriously lack.
Since we went to Disney world the first week of June it really seems like we've been on vacation since then and the boys don't go back to school till September!!!! I feel your pain luv...at least they only argue at dinner time. With mine there's the whole issue of not enough air to breath or perhaps someone else is constantly using SOMEONE ELSE'S air. We're going today to an eye appointment for #2 and then the movie Journey to the center of the earth. This will be our first movie of the summer. Can't afford that AND food AND gas.
Bush was on tv today talking recession. Anyone else tired of hearing about all of this? All I see is my stocks falling, gas rising, and everyone in washington saying "if they'd have done what I asked before". Just gets old...
Okay--off my bushbox...AND I think my 12 year old is in the thralls of puberty. I mean how much is a woman (and a liver) supposed to take you know!

Hey LUV! Sounds like things are pretty hectic around your place!!!

We have five weeks until school goes back. It seems like summer break was longer for us this year but that's just fine with me. Some of the schools here in Alabama start back August 7. That seems way too early to me. They also got out late. I'm not sure why.

Reality hit last week as I was scheduling my fall classes. It will be impossible for me to get my associates degree in less than three years. Being seriously deficient in math (use it or lose it!) I had to spend one year just getting caught up to college level math classes. Therefore, I need an extra year of just to get all of the required math classes done. The silver lining is that I can spread out the rest of my classes and not kill myself trying to get it all done in two years. Then I can finish with two years at a university and finally earn my degree. Looks like I'll be graduating from college the same year Shorty graduates from high school!

Is anybody else ready for their kids to go back to school? Last night I pointed out to my precious two that they start an argument EVERY night as dinner is being set on the table. They had no explanation for their behavior, of course. I came up with some suitable consequences if it happens again-we'll see if that works. They have also become quite lazy.

Then there's the car without A/C that's also getting quite moody about starting, my left ear that has no hearing in it, and my itchy allergy eyes which by the way are even more irritated by driving with the car windows open.

Hopefully vacation next week will renew us all. Until then, pass the margaritas!

Well--I've come to understand there is a fine line between war and peace. In the military that space is often called "a demilitarized zone", in my current life that is called "parenting". As I struggle daily putting out battles, negotiating treaties, helping to build alliances and in many ways "nation building" with my children; I'm drawn to give thanks to those members of the military that are far from home, serving their nation and today waving their flags. My hats off to those men and women today...to my friends serving here and "over there" and to those men and women I stand shoulder to shoulder with as parents. War is hell--and parenting at my home, the way I think is right and with my values and standards vice someone else's is only possible because of those now serving away from home.

Happy July 4th Everyone

Thanks for the support , d. I'll keep you in mind. Right now it's a waiting game for people in the flooded areas: waiting for levees to hold until the water goes down, waiting for their homes to be accessible again so they can survey the damage, etc.

Plan to stop by the National Guard HQ this afternoon to see what they might need-hundreds of them are here to build levees and such. Even if it's just a few batches of cookies to keep them going.
