You know I really loved the books 'Tis and Angela's Ashes. It's been years since I've read them (like 10) but if you think you've got it bad..man...
Then one of my all time favorite books is the "Clowns of God". Fascinating account of the Catholic Pope seeing a vision of the 2d coming (kind of his job right?) and then getting kicked out of the papacy (sorry about the spelling-not catholic) because of the reaction feared by the church if that vision were released to the world. I won't tell you everything but the book follows the exiled popes journeys and the folks he meets and his ultimate meeting with the big guy.
My favorite genre is memoires. Not just famous people but everyday folks too. Jennifer Lauck has an amazing series of books. Heft on Wheels by Mike Magnuson is hysterical! He's an overweight, alcoholic, competitive cyclist, English Professor from Southern Illinois. Of course I love the Irish tenor Ronan Tynan and his book is amazing. The Glass Castle by MSNBC journalist Jeanette Walls is also very good.
I just finished reading I'm Chevy Chase.... and You're Not. Very good. It isn't a funny, comedic account of his career but rather how an abusive childhood affects your decisions and actions well into adulthood. Thought provoking....
Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."
"The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory or defeat but in the true perfection of one's character."
I have read parts of it -- and of course we study his applications at some of the advanced warfighting and strategy schools I've been to....one book that is kind of cool to read is "The leadership lessons of Ghengis Kan". I gave that to our assistant principal for his birthday...actually good stuff.
Wow d, you do need to lighten up on the reading a little bit! LOL Military strategy can be fascinating though. Maybe that's why I kick my kids' tails at Battleship?! I must say I' ve never gotten into those romance novels. I like James Patterson, Robert Ludlum and Janet Evanovich. Janet's stuff has a little romance(Well, actually her heroine is in love with two men) in it, but it's pretty straight forward -no flowery language describing it.
Okay--cc's image has me totally perked up...I need one of those drippy romance novels that discuss his "manness" and all of that stuff. My sister reads them all the time and stays quite happy...(sometimes she'll call and read me the good parts)....Of course I'm reading Cobra II--inside the workings of the invasion of Iraq...I've got to loosen up..or read 2 books at one time....
The iced coffee at McD's is pretty good as well if you're in the market of a coffee under 3 dollars...
