How about trying the MDE: The Student Issues unit.
It provides assistance to students, parents, school district personnel, community groups/citizens, and educational personnel in their efforts to ensure equity, fairness and equal opportunity for all kindergarten through twelfth-grade students. Maybe they can at least direct you the right direction. 'Gotta love trying to figure out who, how & where on the site. Sometimes I feel like they put it all on there & I can't see the tree in the forest.
I understand the whole "do I have to continue to fight" to get what my kid needs & the idea of homeschooling. Been there many a time! I know a parent is the best advocate but since when does advocate equate to adversary???
Renee,
these things make home schooling sound more appealing every minute!! At least if they get screwed up ,they'll be mini versions of me and my husband!!Grades these days do not tell all about your kid [you could have an un-rounded kid getting A's;a terrific street smart kid getting D's] and their learning styles differ ; not everyone can be stuffed in the education"box".
I did keep my daughter home for 2nd and 5th grade and was worth it.I am not a nut toward either religion or academics.
Just want the basics and have cut out all fundraising unless it is something we really like or need.If they can't educate a kid on 6,8oo$ ;which is probably what cranbrook costs, then I don't know what to say. There are dedicated teachers who are terrific but my husband reminds me it is mostly just a paycheck to these people. Vouchers!!!!!!
Sending kids 6-7 hours a day with strangers is becoming less and less appealing.
I just keep after them and just want well rounded , honest young people at the end[who can support themselves!!!]
Also did you know on mdoe.state.mi.us/teachercert/
[think it's right you can google it] you can do an online search of your kids teacher to see what they are qualified to teach.Pretty cool. Spent time just "browsing" checking credentials.
**can check for any one that has a license[md's,dentists, hairdressers etc] in the State of MI too at MIch.Dept.of labor and growth
Yup! Too many budget cuts but she preaches education. How can you better education when you cut funding. We had a really good school system until budget cuts & a super. (don't get me started) who really doesn't care what the parents have to say or the town. He's only in town 1 day a week because he's the altheltic director of all Mi. We could go on all day... You are not alone in your school issues. We all have some type of issue with ours schools & state. Hang in there.
Well, i hope you have better schools up there....by the time a congressman /woman would do any good my kids would be in college!!!
Sounds like you are sour on Jenny!!!
Thanks for all the support....that should have said "Teachers" above.
I just want the basics taught and updated curriculum with some imagination........
