I have not been a threat and they are making me leave so other parents don't see me and it turns into a "witch hunt", as they put it.
At first they said they would make a place for my student somewhere instead of the 1 hour music class, then i could come in and sit in the library with him, then it was leave the building, then registered letter to leave the campus. They may be worried about something.
I spent part of last year doing another sort of survey and got crossing guards posted in a place that is lacking stop signs, so they know i mean business, but i am not a nut.
perusing with coffee--People seem to forget what their rights are and they can bring legitimate questions as to what is happening in the very same building their kid spends 6 hours a day in.
I would like or even welcome someone to check that I am licensed [in dental hygiene] and if I am fulfilling my job description in a professional manner ,I would not care.
Tax payers do not pay me and I am not a public figure, though, and Under the freedom of information act, i can[and will] see all complaints against this teacher, as well as a copy of her most recent certificate, because I can research her online here in MICH but still have question as to a "music education endorsment" that seems ALL other music teachers have but her.I cannot see other personal info, like job performance reviews, medical info, soc sec# but all else is fair game. [who reviews the teachers performance, any how?]
The princpal is the same thing.I am questioning her leadership qualifications and will look in her files too,as well as my own children's ,to show they are not behavior problems.
What would you think of a parental satisfaction survey be handed out to parents? If curriculum is being met and everyone is doing their job and parents were happy, it should show in a survey?wouldn't it. I may just bring a mockup version to see how it goes. People are regularly reviewed at their private or even public jobs and recieve pay increases with good results, do they not.Why shouldn't teachers have to do the same?[not talking about petty personality stuff between a teacher and parent]
MY KIDS MOM- can you talk about what set off;ie the report you mentioned;was it curriculum or other things? Just curious.
I am prepared for the next few steps and maybe I'll be removing and filling a place on the school board.
Why does it seem people who are retired or don't have kids in the district get on these School board seats!!???
Thanks for opinions from all angles!
My point was that if you question, so many people nowadays automatically think that you are against them, not just looking for information to understand. Advocating means you are supporting, standing up for, or defending. Too often the "defending" is not seen as protecting, but as you must be attacking whatever it is you questioned.
When you raise questions, people become immediately defensive. And I agree with mykidsmom, being an adversary can be a good thing. I'm just tired of feeling as though as soon as I ask, I know I'm going to need to do all kinds of justifying as to why I'm asking. So often these questions are simply that, I want to understand. . .
Good luck & Best wishes Grace. If I stumble on any info, I'll pass it on.
AS far as asking sbout the qualifications of a teacehr or two, good luck. That is really considered personal info and confidential as the employer. It is viewed as the music teacher going to your job and demanding to know how you got your job and how you qualified.
Please don't let her have this over you. I mean don't let her take your energy.
Yes, recalling hte school board is a pian but good things can come from it....I know, I'm a survivor of this!!
The notion of asking you to leave the campus is so touchy! Yeah, if they feel you are becoming a threat to the learning enviroment, you can be asked to wait outside. We had the same thing happen with a parent and a former principal. It's touchy because no one wants to touch it! The Disrict wanted the parent and Admin to just play nice but there were some real problems. There was a very nice person at the school district office that finally sat down with twenty plus parents and when a concrete issue was realize and they weren't just being a "pain" then they stepped in. A report was filed and everythign hit the fan!!
In three month (after six with the school district) we (the PTO) put together another election for new school board members, kept a strong front when the former Director was escorted out of the building; staff members were investigated and let go from their contract; and now that the dust has settled it was well worth the year....yes one entire year, it took to gain a new school board, new director, honest employees and the air is so much lighter now!!
I am not sure what you mean by adversary. A few months ago, some info fell into my lap about our school's music teacher [telling emergency room stories that may include objects being in places] and nothing gets done. The science specials teacher plops the class in front of the same tired videos and tells a mom she is too tired to do science fair and she's not doing that again. How long would I last if i told my boss or patients{i am a dental hygienist]I'm too tired to do my job?.Nice families have moved due to inaction of the people in charge......I have questions about what music teacher's credentials seem to be lacking. Maybe you could answer? can an [or should]an elementary school music teacher be teaching music with out a music education(jx or jq) k-8 endorsement? These are questions I have for the superintendent of the school board,my next stop. I did not wake up and say I am out to get these people.I have just know this school is lacking and person in a higher up postion has practically admitted it to me. No one can answer me as to who is directly responsible for the curriculum being met. Sorry if I seem so adversarial!!!! if that what you meant!!
