Thanks for the tips on the auction, I meet with my team today and hopefully we make it run smoother!

As for American Doll, I applied online, and have not heard back yet.

@busymama
We received an American doll last week. I faxed the request early November our auction in May 1st.
They sent a letter early January and the doll came next week!

I am in Charlotte, NC and we are a private school. We get donations from a lot of organizations in our area:
Charlotte Knights
Carolina Renaissance Festival
Tweetsie Railroad
Nascar Hall of Fame
Asheboro Zoo
Discovery Place
Ripley's Aquarium Myrtle Beach
Carolina Panthers

Plus dozens of local merchants. We just go door to door in the major strip malls.

Jet Blue flies out of Raleigh so you should try to get airfare from them. They respond fairly quickly and its all online so not a lot of hoops.

Good Luck!

Has anyone received an American Girl Doll this year? If so, when did you send in your request? Did you do it online?

Thanks for your feedback!

Missy,

We use a bid box at our silent auctions. Anyone can put in a bid on any item up to about 30 minutes prior to the close of the auction (we don't want a last minute rush to up a bid that the slow person you mentioned is dragging out), and the rules clearly state that the winner will be the highest bid on the bid sheet or from the bid box.

I like the idea of taking the items that are receiving furious last-minute bidding to the live auction - we may try that this year. We typically just have 4 or 5 live auction items, but in the last few years, we've had people practically fighting to get a few key items, and then bitterly complaining to everyone involved in the auction if their last minute bid doesn't win. That would solve that problem - thanks, Ninja4Good!
