cw, ewwwwwwww! is all I can say about that. It gives me the hibie jibies just to think about it. I admit that I'm not the greatest housekeeper in the world, but my house is clean, just lived in. It's been much better for the last month, thank goodness.
Thanks everyone for all the great advice, insight, and thoughts. It's been a great help knowing first hand what's available. I've got lots of books on decorating, but its great to hear real life stories.
Thanks Shawn for the links, I'll be checking them out later.
With 800 sq ft of beautiful oak floors I use 2 parts water one part vinegar in a spray bottle with a flat head mop (O Cedar) to clean up everyday uck and I have another bottle with water and two capfuls of Murphy Oil to do a nice all over clean a shine on the floors! The only thing I do that I would love to change is I clean the floors after the kids are in bed so I can get everything done in one swoop and I know the floor will be clean for at least six hours! HA!!
Don't loike the Wet Swifer...love the dry swifer to get underneath the sofa etc.
Our home was built in 2000 and it was cheaper to have hardwood floors than to upgrade the carpet! Plus the color choices were a joke! Three boys and light colored carpet! I would rather have hard wood!

Check out HGTV's website for ideas and instructions on how to handle painting floors and refinishing hardwood, and such. I LOVE that channel!
We just put Brazilian cherry hardwood floors in our entry and dining room and it's gorgeous. I love my slate tile in my kitchen and breakfast area too--so easy to clean!
Library, I think painted concrete would be alright just need to get high traffic paint that is for concrete floors. You may not have as many colors to choose from but an accent from the rug would work great.
Plus good conversation piece when company comes over. "Did you know how many different opionin(sp?) i had on how to do this floor" haha.
Oh what I would give for a wood floor! But sadly, it's concrete, I live in Florida, and since the house is about 30yrs old, they didn't build them w/wood floors at that time, unless it was custome designed.
