page two......

Yikes! That sounds just like our Arts Day. Ours is just one day and we have over 100 parents volunteer for various positions but, you guessed it, nobody wants to lead a project. Year after year I found myself begging for leaders. Maybe I'm just the bossy type but I always love being the leader on things. I wish there was an easy answer.....

Oh well, don't let it ruin the happy feelings from a very successful Book Give-away event!

Okay, just got an e-mail from our PTO President. No one is willing to take on the craft days projects at our school. Plenty of people to work it, but no one wants to be the big cheese. She's going to put a date in her newsletter for someone to come forward or it will be cancelled. Isn't that sad? We have some incredibly lazy parents at our school. They want the world, but don't want to put forth any effort to get it.

The guilt is creeping in, but I CANNOT take on another project or I'll go into meltdown. Actually the President says she won't let me do it, because "you're doing more than enough". I love her.

Actually, we did this huge reading program last year(the book giveaway was just a part of it) and at the request of the superintendent I worked over the summer to turn it into a district wide program. One other school also did a book giveaway last week and some of the others are utilizing other segments of the program. Businesses in our community went nuts for it and I have incentives coming out my ears. We've also managed to raise some nice funds. It's something I hope will only continue to grow. Keeps me out of trouble...well most of the time anyway.

Another part of the program last year was to modify our cakewalk at our carnival to be a cake/book walk. The kids could choose which they wanted. I've posted the info previously on the board, so someone could find it if they searched.

Gosh, LUV, it's great to hear good news! You should share your book give-away project. I'll bet other schools would love to do similar events at their school. Does anyone remember RIF - Reading is Fundamental? It seems they came to my school once or twice a year. I loved choosing my free book.

A local grade school had their Family Fun Day on Saturday. We went because my son's karate class was performing. Anyway, there was a Cake Walk and a Book Walk right next to each other. The line for the Book Walk was longer!

I missed being here too. Last week was just non-stop. This week is a bit quieter as I just sort of cleanup from the many events of last week. Friday was one of those days that gives you a reason to keep going on in this crazy world of PTO. We did our book giveaway at school and all the kids were so excited. It was a long day, but so worth it. The best part of all was with one little kindergarten girl. She picks out her book and goes to sit down with her classmates. They are all discussing which books they picked and showing each other pictures and as they line up she looks at me and says "You mean, I get to take this book home with me?" I said "Yes, it's yours to keep and read over and over as many times as you want." She got this huge grin on her face and hugged that book so tight. Forgot all about my sore knees from standing all day.

Hi LUV! Missed you....

Political campaigns in the south sure are interesting. Liberal is a bad word and apparently the worst thing you can call someone. I'm hearing more about the 10 Commandments (who breaks them along with which ones, how many times, etc.) than I ever did in church. And it seems the best thing ever is if you can hold a bible in one hand and a hunting rifle in the other.
