I was just zooming through some old stuff and came across this and HAD to write to tell of our experience!
We recently held our last one for the 5th graders in our school. It has been a wonderful success!!! The Dad's have been thanking us SO much for letting them have time with their kids!
We are a school of about 950 students. So, the answer is, YES, it can be done on a larger scale! We had to break it down by grade level.
Overall, this was definately a moral booster for the PTO and the school in general. Many of the Dad's asked if they could go to their child's classroom and meet the teacher afterward. I was surprised at how many had never seen their child's class before. So, it really got them involved, whereas before, they almost seemed to have never been in the school. It was really an eye opener for me, who's husband is extremely involved with everything at the school and almost knows the school as well as I do!
Now I am dealing with a few Moms complaining that we didn't do it all year with the Moms. We are planning a Muffins With Mom for the Saturday before Mothers Day. We are thinking of a 3 hour event where the Dad's run the show. I know it is not the same as doing it all year, or on a school morning, but we simply do not have the time left in the school year (or the energy) to do one for each grade level until the end of the year.
I was glad to have found the idea for this on this website. Thank you to whomever brought it up in the first place!
