we are k-5. I will send the flyers over to you now.
I will keep you updated on how our walk-a-thon turns out. The kids seem really excited about the prizes and awards they could win.
We did a walk-a-thon in combination with an auction, dinner & dance. We made most of our money at the auction, but the walk was the concept that brought everyone in. At the elementary level, we found it easier to seek flat donations instead of pledges. We had our money up front & never had to go back to collect. We grouped the kids Kindergarten walked alone for only about 10 minutes. 1st & 2nd together for about 20 minutes. And then 3rd thru 5th for 30 minutes. We played music while they walked. This went on during school towards the end of the day. We then came back in the evening for a bbq meal and then the kids danced while the parents stayed at the auction.
Promotions: We sold advertising to local businesses for t-shirts so each child received a t-shirt; we also sold names on the back of the shirt for $25. Paid for itself & made a bit. Parents who wanted t-shirts for themselves had to pay $10. A local business donated water bottles. A local grocer donated oranges which we quartered.
Dinner: Sold a little above cost -- but not much.
Auction: Live and silent.
Dance: Some teachers worked the dance while parents stayed behind to bid on items. Left silent auction open until after live auction was through. The art teacher assisted us with the kids making designs for pieces of furniture (desk, toy box, book case, etc.) These made a lot of money! We also sold principal for the day, assistant principal for the day, counselor for the day, first in line for afternoon pick-up, lunch with teachers, and other donated items. The thing that made the most was a quilt that was pieced together from squares the kids drew on with permanent markers.
Bottom line -- we had fun at the walkathon & the kids loved it -- but we didn't make a lot of money from the walk itself. Most of the money was at the auction.

We had thought of doing a Walk-A-Thon to promote EXERCISE amoung the Middle schoolers... Seems they like to sit and play on the PC more than MOVE!! LOL We just haven't thought of how to go about it. R your kids Elem. or Middle?

We got quite a few back. If you give me your email address I could send you our flyers as samples for you to use. Instead of me trying to explain them all on here. WISH US LUCK!
