We are working on a walk-athon for next fall as well-- WE are going to try this route instead of 4 of our big fundraisers. We think parents will love only doing this 1 fundraiser instead of 4 others. We checked out the company on the yellow pages of ptotoday and then made our own pages from examples of theirs.
I will post our pledge form on the file exchange. Sponsorship is great-- try dealerships, we are having a section where a bubble blower will have bubbles flying, we are giving out a prize to everyone that participates with a pledge of whatever. We are also giving out raffle tickets for kids that turn in pledges over a certain amount and we have gotten larger prizes for that and then we are giving 3 prizes out for the top 3 pledge getters -- 1 being an ipod.
We tried to get prizes related to healthy excercising or healthy habits-- working on a gift certificate for a bike as well.
The vent itself will run for an hour-- so the kids are timed.
The Big thing is make it fun for the kids--

Hello, everyone we are doing our first walk a thon this year and I see some really spectacular ideas. I would love to get some of the flyers that you all have already produce and any ideas that you may have. We are a very small military school in Fort Dix, NJ. We have a lot of transition here so it has been very difficult to raise awareness of how important parent participation is specially from parents that are generally rotate in and out. It is our hope that this event will bring our communtity together. Again I look forward to any and everything you have to offer. Thanking you in advance for your help. Need help! We are trying to plan a walk-a-thon for the spring. I have read all of the posts, but would love to get some details about flyers, prizes, costs, sponsorship forms etc. If anyone would be willing to share, please send information to This email address is being protected from spambots. I have a couple walkathon questions...
We are a k-8 school. Do the middle schoolers get into this?
We have a field that is 1/4 mile around. Is it better to let them walk around until they give up, or set a time limit? (For example, each grade has 1 hour, and we would group some of the grades together.)
Any creative way to amp up the fun level? I know a DJ is a popular suggestion. Have people done crazy hat day/walkathon or something similar?
Finally, has anyone utilized e-mail solicitation to relatives?
