Three years ago, our PTO had a reputation of being very clique (sp??). When they all left the school (either moved or their children went to higher grades), there was a brand new gang and I was the VP. We had tremendous success in not only regaining our financial status, but in getting parents involved. We also had a new principal that year and she came with a ton of fun activities for the kids as well.
This year I was President and I decided that two years is long enough, it's time for a new reign. My VP didn't run either as this was her 2nd year on the committee either.
We just held our elections and we're very pleased with the choices, half are kindergarten mom's and the Pres will have a 6th grader and our treasurer this year, is again the treasurer so they have a "oldie" on the board so no one feels lost.
We have great confidence that they will do a great job or even a better job than we did but most of all, we know that our PTO's reputation can only get better from now on.
I'm looking forward to just being an active volunteer next year.
Let me rephrase my earlier comment. It is not the people on the committee I am puzzled about but the way our by laws has the committee set up.
LUV, I think co pres is great. What is the best way to make that work. When I was president I wanted a team effort, I still felt like I was dictating too much. I had my vps in charge of certian things. I really want to see more active committees if I do get it.
Well, after a less than enthusiastic turnout at our nominations meeting, I had eyes looking at me. Talked with a friend and I guess we're going to throw our names in for co-presidents. Two heads are better than one and hopefully will make it less stressful and overwhelming. Here I go again......
I have officially thrown my hat into the ring. I am still not sure. I have had so many misconceptions about this nominating committee. I emailed the principal and told her I am definately interested and she said she would tell the committee.
I am breaking hubby down. He'll be alright. I'll just give him a fishing pole and send him out the door.
