Let's see if I can catch up:

We stopped doing family gift exchange with my husband's family when my mother-in-law and I realized that everyone was just giving gift cards. That made no sense to us. No one has complained!

I've got to find that nasty post, I think I know where it might be......

We've been pretty fortunate in the sick department. Son had flu that kept him home for 3 days, but so far the rest of us have been okay. Lots of handwashing!

I'm feeling disgusted with some of the volunteers at our school. We have stuff that needs to be prepped for an event next week and I had several people who said they'd work on it. Well, guess what, it's only about 1/4 done. I'm going to have to spend time that I had planned to do other things to get this project going. Had one teacher who found me working on it this morning and had me show her how to do it, so she could help. Don't tell me you're going to do something, then drop the ball. That makes me furious!

Oh yeah, I think my hubby threw away one of my favorite cookie recipes. He doesn't like them, so it wasn't important to him. Cross your fingers that I can find it on the internet!

Let's all just sit down for 5 minutes and stare at the lights on the Christmas tree. Ooooooo, sparkly...

Hey ScottMom - Glad to hear that your son is recovering. Homeschooling is a wonderful option for many families....

Today is history in the making. I take my hat off to the Pearl Harbor Survivors:

Not judging, just offering one perspective on the healthy food vs junk food in schools debate. Watch the video too, if you have time. It's interesting:

Finally - Tim's the best! I see why he's the big cheese. Well said!

Middle child is on day 4 home from school. He did 3 days worth of school work in less than 2 hours, all correct and legible, no wonder the poor kids is bored at school. I hope he gets to go back tomorrow. I'm starting to get really attached to having him here. When he's not resting we are doing math games and science stuff and when he is resting, we take turns reading Harry Potter to each other and the little one. I'm seriously thinking I could do the home school thing with him and we would both benefit from it.
Sunday is our 1st Christmas party so my goal is to get the last of the shopping done by Friday or Saturday. For those of you that have a Target, ours just recently put in a $1 section and it has some really cool stuff. Gifts for teachers and helpers and stocking stuffers. I got all kinds of kitchen/food toys for the youngest.
Last night I was invited to a recognition dinner for parents that teach religious ed classes. I'm trying to figure out how to break it to the principal that I will not be attending the PTO meeting this month because I'd like to be honored for my work outside of the school. (I also hate the new meeting schedule.) When you spend several years working on a certain schedule, you realize you set your life around it, and, especially when it worked for you, you start to resent people who change it. Our December meeting used to always be short and at the 1st of the month and we didn't have another meeting until the beginning of February. With enough planning, small groups don't have to have a meeting every month, so basically I hate going to a meeting and having very little to talk about and feeling like I'm wasting people's (and my) time. But who am I to try to tell a new person that I know the school very well and certain things just won't work. Only 2 parents were at last month's meeting held just before Thanksgiving (not my call) and one of them is a staff member. I would have rather been home cleaning my house for Thanksgiving but instead I was stuck at some boring meeting were only 1 decision was made and stuff that's been in place for months was rediscussed for any new problems. No wonder people don't want to come.
Seriously, people just make me crazy!!!!

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

It's crazy - If you try to support the leadership, you're being cliquey and exclusive. If you try to support the member, you're a weak leader who can't follow bylaws and structure. If you try to address the issues and ignore the emotions, you're insensitive. If you address the emotions then you're just being a girl - and Lord knows how girls can be.

Whatever. I've found that the majority of folks who post here have a genuine interest in helping and learning. Their input comes from their experiences and perspective. If I'm helpful to someone, great. If I learn something new, terrific. If I offend someone, it's probably an accident. If I'm just being a girl, that's ok. I am a girl. :D

Hubby's getting back on track. He went pretty quickly from wishing he was dead to pissed off that he isn't instantly and miraculously fine. The recovery process isn't something he does with grace and elegance! Luckily, he's only had a few major illnesses or traumas so he doesn't have to go through it very often. Unlike when he was a kid and St. Mary's hospital had a whole wing and a dedicated staff for his Evel Kneivel type injuries! One thing he's learning is empathy for folks (present company included) who do have to go through things like this more often!!!

I hope all of you and yours are on the mend and will get through flu season soon.

18 shopping days to Christmas! Or 14 for those of us leaving for vacation on the 21st..... Yikes, I'd better get busy.
