I'm all for medical advances, especially cancer research. But forcing the vaccine on young girls is ridiculous, as is the reason given. Because it's a financial drain on the health care system? So is teen pregnancy. Should we sterilize them too? What about the boys? This sends a pretty clear message to the girls, and the wrong one at that.

Some days it feels a whole lot more like 1907 than 2007...

Well that is outrageous. Thanks for the link. I am glad to see that Merck (the maker of the vacine) their stock price went DOWN today.

OK, SERIOUSLY... What the heck is going on in the world today. Has everyone just gone completely crazy?

I have a son, but I imagine if I had a daughter and I lived in Texas, I'd be furious. I wonder what you all have to say about this HPV vaccine being mandatory?

It did work. Thanks! What a bizarre story. It's very scary. It seems unclear to everyone involved whether or not he ever actually attended classes. Stories like this make me cry. Really. And my son wonders why I'm so crazy overprotective....

In better news, I'm off to Talladega this weekend to help my karate instructor teach a women's self defense class. I never in my life thought I'd take karate, much less use it to help other women. This has been a very empowering experience and I just can't wait for the class tomorrow. It's going to be fun walking into that room with a female Shihan (5th degree black belt) and six other women in our uniforms. I have a feeling that as a purple belt beginner I'm mostly going to be the 'attacker' so the much more experienced women can show the defense moves. I'm going to spend a lot of time on the floor.... or somewhere between standing up and the floor.... for most of the day! Maybe they'll at least buy me dinner afterwards! Or some tylenol and a glass of wine.

Hubby, what a prince he is. He offered to go along and be the token male. He thought it would be great for these ladies to show how easy it is to throw a 6'2", 225 lb male to the floor. I'd have taken him up on it if he hadn't looked so eager! Too bad for him men aren't allowed to go.....

foxnews, cnn, nyt, they all have links to the same story....if you enter the words '29yr old student posing' into your search engine, you should find lots of links. It is the weirdest story. Worth reading.
