Anybody doing a superbowl party? I've been cooking sausage peppers and onions in homemade sauce, brisket, and wings since yesterday. Should be fun....we've actually hung some things downstairs so it looks better and better in the new basement and heck--come 5:30 it's a party!!!
Boys brought home report cards Friday. You know one of the things I love about our school is the little touches. Like sometimes the principal and assistant principal will push around a cart with donuts and coffee and stop in the teachers rooms and give them a 10 minute break for no reason...but one of the other things is that they randomly draw out report cards and write notes to the children. Not everyone and not all...but just random to show they are concerned and interested in the child's progress. Well #3 got a note from the principal that was just lovely and he has been glowing all weekend. Made sure to say "he was the only one that got one" and thankfully all the boys were happy for him and enjoyed his success with him. He's not the smartest or the most advanced....but man he felt like a million dollars this weekend and when dad came home from a business trip couldn't wait to show him.
It is amazing the impact that these folks have on our children.

ps--if I had a daughter - she'd be getting the vaccine. What I don't like is the governor's connections with the vaccine companies and producers...as I would have said in the Army "it just doesn't brief well".

Seven karate women and 1 officer--sounds like a new Village People group. I guess YMCA would still fit though, huh? :)

No people in the south don't handle cold. It gets below 50 and we get cranky. And any talk of ice, sleet, snow or anything below 32 and we clean out the milk and bread aisles at the grocery store. In our defense though, when power goes out, it stays out. Rarely really happens though. And where was I on Wednesday when they were talking about ice on Thursday? Int he bread aisle at Walmart!! :)

I'm all for the vaccine. It's an amazing advance towards completely curing cancer. I guess my initial reaction was to the age at which it's manadatory and the message it sends to these little girls. If I had a daughter, I'd encourage her to get it but would approach it as a concern towards her future health.

Silver, it was so funny here. It was 27 degrees with frost on the ground this morning and you would've thought it was 10 inches of snow and 27 below zero. Folks here don't even blink at a 105 degree, 98% humidity day but cold is not for them!

Wow, did I ever have a great day today. I've never helped at a women's self defense clinic before. I know I'm going to be sore tomorrow because I was flipped, kicked, punched and a variety of other things - over and over again. It was all worth it, though, to see these college age girls walk out of the room empowered with the belief that they can learn to defend themselves and lessen their chance of being the victim of an abuser or a random violent crime.

It was too funny to watch people's reactions as we walked into O'Charley's for dinner - seven women in karate gis and one in a police uniform. I think every cook and busboy came around to get a look at us too!

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."

Oh how funny! It's so cold here that they actually have local news stories about kids getting their tongues stuck on cold metal.

I am with Scotts on the vac thing. I know as parents we would hope our children share discussions about when they are thinking of becoming 'active' but reality suggests otherwise. I will do everything in my power to help my children ensure a cancer free life - this is one of the ways to do so. What about our parents & Grandparents; they were introduced to manditory vacs via MMR etc. I am sure they could give us some 'sacred to death stories' about when those became manditory. Either way all vacinations are optional and as will this one.
Half glass full - this as a one up on the male population ... I haven't heard of any cancer fighting options out there for them. Long live the woman!

Holy cow Scott, no wonder you hate washing dishes. 12 years with gross stuff! Yuck! And it is going to be a whole month before they fix the dishwasher? Geez.

Ohhhh, cinnamon apples sound GOOD!

I'm off to pick up Turbo Tax and get that done. Hubby has been driving me bonkers to get it completed.

Have a great day!

I started washing dishes when I was 5 and did them until I moved out at 17. My family was really inconsiderate and they made it all very disgusting so one of my goals for adulthood was a dishwasher. I also like that there is never any excuse for dishes to be everywhere. My husband was the baby in a large family and never had to do dishes and my oldest is 11 and neither of them is detail oriented enough. The stuff that has to be hand washed always needs to be rewashed by me the next time it's needed. It's all very tedious, but my husband and I learned a long time ago that we like each other a whole lot more when we have a dishwasher.

I have to admit that I'm on the fence about the Texas HPV Vac decision. I used to work in a clinic and more than one third of the women my age treated there had HPV and were going through some horrible treatments for it. Women who have delt with it have jumped to get their daughters vaccinated. If I had a daughter, I wouldn't hesitate. I can't see making my child go through anymore suffering in this world. I think as long as I can opt out of something for my child, I don't care what they say I should do. I'm more concerned about the children (mostly illegals) being allowed to attend school without the basic vaccines and spreading illnesses that are 100% preventable. As for paying for it, most health departments offer vaccines, especially for school and masses, for next to nothing and won't deny people because of inability to pay. Do I really think this vaccine will help keep girls healthy and in school? Considering the ages most prevalent, I'd say it'd be better used as a requirement for college. I definately think it will get parents in Texas informed about the vaccine and make them have to make a conscious decision about their child(ren)'s health.

Unused meds should either go back to the doctor, clinic or pharmacy for proper disposal-usually incineration-and documentation, so if you need it again in a month, your doctor won't think you are drug seeking.

I love Smores Brownies but we are trying to eat healthier at my house so we had cinnamon apples and pears a la splenda ice cream.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
