Silver, it's a nationwide weed epidemic! Last night I was picking strawberries and pulling weeds at the same time. Now that the kids are out of school, they will have a regularly scheduled weed pulling time each week! I left them this morning with a list of chores and instructions to spend some time reading. I'm all for having fun, but they are NOT going to lie around all summer. Plus, I told them if they help with housework, then I have less to do and more time to take them places to have fun. We'll see how it works!
Menlo - keep checking in! Summer is when it gets really good because we all finally have some time to slow down and talk about the last year and the upcoming year.
d - excellent tip with the cake mixes. It's sure to be my new favorite way to bake!
Silver - weeds, weeds and more weeds here too. The weather is just perfect for growing weeds ~ but not much else....
The packing team descends on my house bright and early tomorrow morning. My friend gave me her house key and said I could go over there while she's at work if I need a break from the chaos. She's a great friend! Maybe I'll say thanks by trying one of d's cake mix cookie recipes!

My husband thinks I'm crazy for checking the boards while school is out, but I feel like I'll miss something good if I don't! We're loving summer so far and I hope all of you are too! (we got out of school on May 25th and we go back August 2)
Just checkin' in ... everyone must be having a great weekend. Rainy here but enough sun to hit the garden ... whew those darn weeds sure can grow over night!

Gotta pass this on...while I love to cook I am NOT a baker. Too much science involved (although I did just make a fabulous flan for a dinner guest tonight)...but I digress.
Can I just say that using cake mix for cookies is my new favorite thing. Just take any cake mix (no really, any one) and instead of everything else put in 2 eggs and 1/3 to 1/2 cup of veggie oil. Mix it up and THAT'S THE DOUGH!!!!! You can mix in 1/2 cup of anything else you want to like nuts, chocolate chips etc. Bake 350 for about 12 minutes. I swear to GOODNESS I could kiss the woman that told me about this. I made devil's food with chocolate chips and well let's just say my hubby did NOT let me take them to the party. Now they are a bit soft when they come out so you have to let them cool in the pan and then move to a rack to finish...but YUM...
If you want to get really fancy, mix equal parts of any icing and cool whip and put in the middle of 2 cookies...
really it's as good as it gets!!!
CC--I haven't forgotten my email to you. Still running backwards with Dreamcatchers Day on Saturday.
Hey Silver! I'd like to read that. Hubby did a paper on Iacocca in college. As his "research assistant", I read a lot of info about him and was very impressed with him as a person and with his leadership style. I hadn't seen that book out. I'll have to pick it up.
hmmmm, Fred Thompson...... Interesting. He's certainly had an eclectic career.
I'm a rotten citizen. Of course presidential elections are important and perhaps this one more than ever considering the global climate and troops still being at war. But I am so underwhelmed by all of the candidates, except my man John McCain, that I just can't bring myself to watch all of the pre-election stuff.
Oooo, change of subject. Four days until the movers show up. My friend brought over home made chicken enchiladas for lunch today so I wouldn't have to mess up the kitchen. Yuuummmm~mmmyyy!!!
