We have something very, very basic for our K-Moms & Dads, but I simply love this idea!!! Could you please send me your information! We've already set events for this year, but I'll make it a priority for next year. Please, please send me info about Boo Hoo Breakfast!

We are thinking of starting this next year. Could someone email me a flyer and any other information that you might suggest that would make this successful.

This August will be our 3rd year doing the Boo Hoo breakfast. Our Principal and K teacher incorporated it into the first day of school for the students. The kindergarden students and parents meet in the cafe. We provided a pancake breakfast (last year we did jiffy mix and our budget was well under $200) and sausage, milk and orange juice. The Principal says a few words of welcome and after breakfast the K teacher talks and gathers the students for a story. After that, the parents, students etc... go to the classroom to check it out. (not sure exactly what k teacher does because I've never gone with them) This 2 hours is considered their first day of school so that the next day the students come ready to learn. The PTO sets up an information table and all k student families get their welcome packet at the breakfast. The teacher provides a sign in sheet because it is considered the first day of school. This way we know who still needs a packet. Though we don't do a big PTO/volunteer push, we do provide all information in the welcome packet and the principal typically gives a nice pto blurb for us. The first year we incorporated a first day pancake breakfast for our teachers before school started but only a few came down. I think they are a bit jittery the first day just like us.
We host a 'Big Step Reception' for our K parents. We send the invitation home when they enroll. We serve donuts/juice for am and cookies and lemonade for pm. We do not overwhelm them with volunteer needs but we introduce ourselves (officers) and talk for a minute about PTO and then the Principal talks to them and helps eliviate their concerns. Last year we handed out a poem with a bag attached with little items that went with it. This year we are doing balloons with a poem. We hold the event right at drop off time and it lasts 30 minutes, it does help the parents say their goodbyes and not linger in the classroom which can only make things worse if they already have an upset kindergarter!
