For those that have been approved by Atlantis in Reno, how did you hear back from them? We're about 250 miles from Reno, so this would be a great item for us, but I haven't heard back from them.

I was told by many this was the funnest and best trivia and silent auction they have ever been to. We are located 20 minutes from St. Louis Mo and had donations from across the country. I would not recommend trading any type of donation given, companies do not intend for you to give gifts away. We had a 3 night stay to Atlantis Resorts and even though we are far far away from that location it went very well in the silent auction! Good luck to all!!!

I wouldn't trade either. Doesn't seem right.

How do you get airline tickets donated? Most of the airlines say they do not donate to schools. Is it better to try travel agents?

One year we had 2 baskets left over (we only have raffles/baskets - no auction). We put them aside. A few months later I repackaged them into 1 basket (some smaller items had expired) and we raffled them off at a school picnic. I felt this was still used for the school. Maybe auctions are better suited to gathering items way out of their area but probably not in my case. That said, I live in NY and this is the first year I obtained Disney hopper passes - and I felt that there are enough people who might vacation in Florida for that to be reasonable. Private, high tuition schools might also have populations with deeper $-pockets so that makes sense to try to win prizes far away. I don't expect Gharadelli chocolate (San Francisco) to donate to us (NY) - though I would LOVE it if they did - so I don't apply there. I think this is a great vehicle for people like us to chat and learn. The downside for companies that donate is that they become inundated with requests and wind up limiting their donations/geographic areas (e.g., Green Mountain, Pearl Paradise, etc.). Last year I tried unsuccessfully to obtain a donation from Vermont Teddy Bear. But, they likely donated TONS of their teddy bears to Hurricane Sandy victims in our area. I try to keep that big picture in mind as well. If you swap donations, hope you are not offended by this thread - just food for thought. Feel free to share a different opinion.
