We have a community member on Facebook with a question about donations and how your group makes sure the donation (particularly if it is a trip/hotel stay) is truly what the donor says it is.
Here's the original question:
Are there any guidelines for obtaining auction items and securing their value? What I am asking is how do we make sure the donated item is of the value claimed especially with regards to trips and stays at places. I had a condo in Vegas donated - on the website it looked very nice - buyers were not happy came back said it was a like a dorm room. Are there things I can do to be better aware of what has been donated?
It looks like some of you are looking for ideas for donation letters. If you go to our File Exchange, you can download this file (link:http://www.ptotoday.com/filesharing/document/107-pto-today-auction-donation-request-letter-1) and customize it for your group. You can use it to connect with potential donors.
Also, if you go to the File Exchange section on auctions (link: www.ptotoday.com/filesharing/category/10-auctions) you will find lots of files you can use to promote your auction, track donations, and send thanks to donors.
I submitted the American Girl Form about 3 weeks ago, and haven't heard anything. Our event is Oct. 18th. Do you think there is a chance we will still get something?
Thank you so much, this forum has been a HUGE help in collecting donations! I receive probably 2 "no's" for every 1 "yes" but it's been worth it so far! Once I get some time, will post a link to the companies that have donated to us so far, some of them are not on the main list.
Thanks again everyone for all the help and insight!
