The ULTIMATE Donation List

12 years 8 months ago #160030 by ptrrabit
I completely understand your situation. Until this year NONE of us were able to help!! It was aweful these 2 or 3 ladies did everything and then just complained that no one wanted to help!! We have a completely new administration and with that came a glimpse of hope for us parents that wanted a real PTO. It is slow going and completely frustrating but I have hopes it will get better.

we have approximately 750 kids in our elementary school and have a massive potential to raise alot of money but never had much support these ladies are figuring out that it is nice to have a little help and that we can pull big things off together. Even our teachers are excited but getting frustrated. Big things come with alot of patience, they were very suprised when they split the donor lists up into small lists of 6 and everyone chose a list and then did just as you said took from others that they already knew the contacts extra

Blippncott sorry you have medcal issues. I wasn't really referring to them emailing me but rather using email for soliciting. They don't understand how quick and easy it is and how effective it can be. How you can do it late at night when kids are in bed. Instead of being glad I am getting items this way they give me digs that I must do nothing else but sit home on computer all day. Too funny.

Anyone receive a gift card from Christmas Tree Shoppe recently? It,s been over three months and no word from them. Same with Advanced Auto and Red Box. Anyone receiving donations from these places lately?

@ pttrabbit: I have had success with both calling companies & sending letters. It seems to me that it takes the companies a longer time to respond to the letters. They don't contact me to say that they are donating & send the donation to school. I don't realize the donation is there. The secretary emails me when some come in. I am up in the office frequently as I am the Chair for Market Day, so that makes it easier. Some of the local community companies will donate right on the spot because they are a franchise and can make those decisions without corporate okay. Others tell me to send or bring by my letter & tax id # and they will forward to corporate. Others will give me an 888 or 800 number to call corporate and speak with their Public Relations or Marketing Dept. So, I have had a little bit of everything as for success of communication.

@ginko: I agree that it seems easier & efficient for everyone for the President or Chairs to send out emails. However, at least for me...there are days in a row that I do not get on my email. I have some medical problems and when that is exacerbated, I don't even think about hopping on my email...so in that way, it is nice to get a phone call. That being said, my PTO President or the Chair that I am volnteering for know that they should call me for more immidiate issues.

pttrabbit, when we were going over who would ask which businesses it turned out that some people had contacts at some of the places. So naturally you would think let the person with the contact do the asking of that place. It was suggested that we review the lists and email each other if we had a contact at a business. The head of the event said nope do not do that because she does not have time to sit at home on the computer all day and read emails (that was a dig). We thus could not cooredinate things. Perplexed how she has time to sit at home and make 100 phone calls though? The phone calls take longer than emails! And the emails are very effective and cost saving! I have called places and asked who I can send an email to and some places say yes to me right then and there and just need the email for their records and our info (tax ID, address ect...).

@ginko - I know your feeling about people not understanding the power of email. I just don't understand it. I try and try to get our officers to communicate by email. It is just silly that you don't do it.. who has time to call 15 people to remind them of something when if you send one mass email to everyone and ask for a reply that they recieved it and only call the few that don't reply. saves lots of time for me!! plus i can do it at midnight 1am 2 am whenever I am up and the house is quiet. I just scored 4 general admission aquarium tickets its better then nothing from them. $8 each regular retail but it is the idea that we got them just by asking.

@ stac - We would kill to have a hunt from GSS at our school but we aren't having a live auction so they wouldn't approve us for one.
