Thank you very much. New developments are happening daily in this saga. Now she refuses to give up the checkbook and all related correspondence. We are having the DA's office go over there tomorrow to ask for it. She recieved a certified letter in the mail last week and ignored it. I honestly don't think she will give it up. The new members are just now realizing that some funny business was going on. We are going to call an emergency meeting this week to inform all board members of the situation. Then we will vote to have her removed. We already have a new treasurer in place.
As for the bank. We had problems with it last year. This one person would change the signature sheet without knowledge. We require 2 people to sign, but that's it. They told my husband who is still on the account that he would need this person's authorization to change it. Well you can guess how that went. The principal has signed a letter stating that the names be changed. They will take that in tomorrow. I don't know if it will work. We are going to close this account, and go to a new bank. That way she has no way to get a hold of it. We will conduct a full audit as soon as we can get the stuff turned over from the bank. I think this should have been done last year as it is in our bylaws, but they didn't think she was capable of all the things they now know she has done. We are pursing legal action, or at least asking about it. To put it bluntly, her behind is cooked. She's in a heap of trouble and she knows it, so that is why she hasn't turned the stuff over. She has to cover for the things she's done. I will keep you all aprised and I pray this never happens to any of you.
Just a thought..Doesn't your checking account have more than one authorized signature? Our checking account only requires one signer on the checks, but the president is also an authorized signer. That way if anything goes by the wayside, there is still a level of control within your organization. I would also recommend you use carbon-copy checks. You can also check to see if your bank offers on-line banking, and check your balance that way.
Lisa, GREAT JOB! I am very happy for you! It is very refreshing to see a positive outcome to all this mess. I am hoping everyone sees this person clearly now, and that now the focus can be where it belongs, The Kidsl!congrats Keep us posted on how things progress.
It seems I recall that the only thing the bank needs to change to checking account signatues - is a copy of the minutes that statues who the new president, the new treasurer, the VP etc.
The previous signatures of the bank account are then removed and the new signatures are put on the account - at least that's what I recall when we did the changing of the signatures.
CLAP CLAP CLAP for Lisa - you've made great strides and the leadership that you've shared so far - is just the begining of a great leadership and a super year!
We had our executive board meeting today. To sum things up, I AM NOT RESIGNING!!! Everyone complimented me on our welcome packets. (This was the first year we have done those) Plus my ideas were widely accepted. The one person who has caused me the most problems was there. (I was shocked! She usually doesn't attend meetings this early in the year) Ok first of all I should say that she is the treasurer. We had some money come up missing last year, plus we could never get a hold of her when we needed a check. It took 2 months for some people to get paid! So this year, it was decided between Pres, V-p, and Principal that the checkbook would stay at school at all times. Plus the statements would be mailed to the school. She did NOT like this! When asked if she had the checkbook, she didn't. She had no information other than how much was in the account. When asked when she could get to the bank to change the signature sheet, she replied (quite rudely)"I'll have to check my calendar and get back to you on that". The room was shocked. I think that the board will finally realize that I'm not the bad guy, she is. They will finally see her for who she really is. I hate to say this because it sounds petty, but I will feel vindicated. I have a feeling that things WILL be better this year. And that we can finally get to the business of helping the kids and not bicker about petty crap!
All of you are just too kind!! Thank you very much for your words of wisdom. I copied and pasted this so I can always refer back to it when I am down.
Our next board meeting is Tuesday. Things have been happening behind the scenes, so I'm very anxious, nervous and dreading this meeting. I start our first fundraiser that day, but have heard that a few plan on not participating because of me. I find that childish. Apparently they don't realize that it's not going to hurt me, it will hurt THE KIDS. But that's okay. I will take up the slack elsewhere. If it means standing on the street corner to sell them, then I will! I will keep all of you informed.
