I do the web site for our school and PTO. The PTO site is embedded n the school site. We used to use a template site provided by the district, but we recently registered our own domain name, www.lakeforestelementaryschool.com
It’s a little long of a name, but it was the only thing we could come up with that made sense and was a dot com.
We're developing a new website with a company called Educational Networks (educationalnetworks.net). Their business is to do websites for schools. They do all the setup and adding and maintaining is really easy to do. However, it is pricey. We decided to spend the money so we don't have to worry about having only one person able to do the updates (with this system it's just like typing in a word processing document).
We haven't seen our finished product yet, but they've been great to work with so far.
Our PTO has not had a web site until now. We do not have a lot of volunteer interest, it's always the same few people doing everything. Our goal for next year is to increase parental involvment and we started the web site as one of the ways to meet that goal. It's still very new and I'm still putting it together and looking for ways to make it better, but it is www.eastpto.com. We are school of about 297 students.

Although we have a link to our district and they have a link to ours, we do have total control over the site. As far as updating, all of the officers have access and we help each other out by keeping it updated.
