We also offer up a new slate for vote each year. Gives new people a chance to jump in instead of having just a transition of the same people from one job to another. At least that's the intention, but we tend to end up with the same willing and maybe a little insane souls pretty much every year!!
For us it is spelled out pretty specifically in our by laws. Each year is a new "slate" with new volunteers for each position. We do appoint President and President elect each year though, so the following year the Pres elect becomes Pres. That way they have a year to shadow the pres and learn. Anyone can volunteer or be recommended for Pres elect though, if there is more than one volunteer it goes to a vote.
I have a question. If the time for the president's term is up and the vp wants the position, but so does the secretary, who should get the position. Is it an automatic that the vp gets it? Or should both their names be nominated and voted upon. I know that that's probably what would happen. But ethically should the vp get it just because she's been in that position. Does she get first dibs on it? What would you do? I'm the secty that wants it. And what if the VP wants it too. Am I supposed to just let her have it because she's "next in line"? or should I put myself out there too? What would you do?
