hope I am not too late and you get this, havent had time to be on the website for quite a while. Anyway, we have a walk-a-thon each year, actualy all of our elementery shcools do. They can be very successful. Our comittee sends home manilla envelopes with info about the event and a pledge sheet. The kids have a short time to get pledges (per lap or a set amount) and they return them. When they walk they have a card on their backs that is marked for each lap (stations for each grade set up around track). The kids have chances to win prizes by entering a tix w/ their name for each $5 they bring in. they did a 'trophy" for the top class along with a fun activity. They play music and have drinks and snacks like fruit and pull out names for very small prizes (everyone wins one). We divide the grades into 2 sections as well.

Stacey - as per my previous posts. I am more than willing to share info. I didn't intend on starting a "ME TOO" post. Please email me and I will email you along with the other people who have emailed me that they would like the info.

Not being rude, but I hate all the ME TOO posts that are on here.

Please email me and I will email you what I Have. See previous post for my address

Here's a thought for any newbies wanting to make nice with your principal:

Our school has a School Advisory Committee (SAC) that has to set goals every year for the school, some based on what the county wants from each school. Nothing monetary, just goals like reading scores increasing, technology integrated in lessons, etc. One of the goals we have to meet is community involvement. Since this was our first year of having a PTO, the principal was thrilled to have all of the activities we had planned to put on the goal list (keep in mind this all gets turned in to the district office and looks great for him). Another goal that we have to have is for PE/Health. We had our five hour SAC meeting yesterday (yeah, I'm a member of that too. They really should just give me a bed there :D ) and I mentioned the idea of a walk-a-thon in the spring. The principal loved it and added it to the PE/Health goal.

If your school has a SAC or similar committee, this is one way to make your school/principal look good for the district-all with a little help from PTO.

When you email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. please give me the correct email address to send this information. I really don't mind sending it, but it gets a little frustrating when they all get returned.
To let you know there is a total of 19 emails that I will send you on the Walk-a-thon.
