We just did our very first walkathon. We did it during the last part of the school day, and followed-up in the evening with a hamburger/hotdog dinner, silent and small live auction, and then a dance for the kids. This event had a little something for everyone. Our school has just over 500 students. We had a profit of $12,000 after expenses -- and every child went home with a t-shirt regardless of donations. Hardworking committees kept us on track. We'll likely do again.
I am going to be the new PTO Pres. this year and am very interested in holding a walk-a-thon for a fundraiser. Has anyone done something like this? I am just curious as to how to start something like this (pledges/tshirts/water etc.) Any and all advice is always appreciated!!
