I love this new idea but tell me.... those of you who have done this before.... would it work at a middle school... grades 6th - 8th with 1000 students???
godwin mom - are you wanting information on how to start a walk-a-thon? If so, email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will help you get started.
Our school just raised over $13000.00 doing one. I have all the forms, permission slips, goal trackers, etc. Just let me know if you would like to look at these. Please email me and do not post any "ME TOO'S".

debbie12~ we have done a bike-a-thon, dribble-a thon, and a jump-a-thon. we get the kids to get pledges or donations. usually a penny to a dime a jump, lap or dribble. we then time them about a minute or by the lap, depending on which one they're doing. it has been one of our more successful fundraisers. easy money! good luck!
We had our first walk-a-thon last Friday. We have about 500 kids (k-6) and we raised almost $11,000!! We had each grade level walk for 1/2 an hour. That was it. We also said there would be NO HOMEWORK for A WEEK if they reached their goal of $10,000. What an incentive!
We have done a 10-day "lap-attack-a-thon" where the students run laps during their lunch hour and get pledges for each lap. We went to another local school during their walk-a-thon and came away with some ideas that we incorporated into ours. They held theirs on a Saturday, from 9-2. Parents came with their lawn chairs and watched. They held a silent auction in the gym where the parents could bid during the day. High school cheerleaders, football players, the mayor, local celebrities, etc. were all their to kick it off. Lunch was served, along with snacks. There was a big "moonwalk" for younger kids, etc. They were given cards that were punched at each lap. Every so often, they would have to pass through a "snack booth" and a "watering hole". These were all manned by the faculty. I could go on, but that gives you a little bit of an idea.
