We just had Color A Thon at our school but I attended as a parent, the event was organized by school staff. We held the color run on a Saturday, it went through the small subdivision we are located in so most parents were able to walk up to the school. The company set up the course, and placed their own helpers around the course to douse everyone with color. They also provided a pack of color to each participant (they got more if they raised more pledges). After the run was over there was a hose on site that people could use to rinse off.
The run was well received by parents, but the teacher that planned it didn't do enough to push it properly (yes she should have asked us to do it!). We did hear some complaints about there being an entrance fee to a school event though, even though it was held on a Saturday. The kids loved it of course!
I've been dying to have one at our school. We're a small private school of 300. How many volunteers do you think we'll need and how do you splash the kids with colors, as they run by the volunteer?
Where would be a good place to purchase the colors from?
I just got a brochure in the PTO mailbox from School-a-thon. They specialize in school color runs! It looks really easy and fun! It also seems like they are able to scale it depending on the size of the event you are looking to hold. We are going to check them out for our fall fundraiser. www.schoolathon.com
For those that have done a color run how do you clean the kids up before you send them home? Or is this not a concern by the parents that participate. I have done a 5k color run and would not have wanted to get back in my car after.
