Question: Art Teacher

Can a PTO pay a part time art teacher outside of the district employment? We have a parent volunteer who has facilitated art projects on an intermediate basis. The PTO would like to make her a permanent addition one week a month and pay her for her time. Is this something a PTO is legal to do?

This is likely no legal issue here and we've certainly heard of other groups doing similar things. One thing to consider is your group budget can change and priorities can shift, so just be careful about the agreement you set up.
