Question: books held hostage

Our president resigned a month ago and has not returned the books, including the check books and other financials. I have requested the books several times, as has the principal. Legally speaking, what can we do to reclaim or books?

The books belong to the PTO and you do have legal recourse, but you might have to hire a lawyer. The main question here is whether you suspect that money is missing. In that case you should put together whatever evidence you have and go to the police. Also, make sure that the former president is no longer a signer on your account(s). If you're not concerned about theft, you might first try paying a personal visit to her house. If possible, take the principal with you, and don't take no for an answer.
