HI

We re a church in Huntersville NC, outside Charlotte NC. This will be our 28th year to hold a bazaar - and about 7 for having a "silent auction". We have a group who work on craft items during the year and another group who work in the kitchen canning jams, jellies, pickles, salsa, chow-chow, etch. through out the year. WE also hold a giant bake sale and serve a full country breakfast on the day of the bazaar. We cleared nearly $20,000.00 last year. WE use our profits to do projects at our church as well as help members of the church who have medical emergencies, needy families with rent/utilities, etc., and last year we put in a handicap ramp at the church and helped a family in the community who last everything to a house fire.

I have found that restaurants in the area are not nearly as willing to donate as they were our first few years. Also those who give only make small donations. In past years I have been able to get between 150 and 200 donations on my own--and I've really put in major time. This year I have some health issues and do not expect to be able to put in nearly as much time as I have in the past. Last year we put together baskets from resort areas like Myrtle Beach, SC, Charleston, SC etc. - some grocery stores contribute but others refuse. It take s a lot of hard work and I"ve found that lots of folks are not willing to gout out and go door to door asking for donations.

I think that it is a risk. You may be lucky to get your money back on it. Unless you have a market for the item or a group trip, I would take a pass.

Here's my completed list of companies we requested donations from. I excluded any that said no, however I kept ones that didn't reply as there could be a number of reasons for it.
Most said yes, though! B)
Please realize that many of these are local, and only serve the Indianapolis area. Check out their websites before asking for donations.
We are located in Indianapolis. I wish we could have had more success with hotels, but it seems as though not many people do.
Our auction was on May 16th, and we raised over $17,000!! :woohoo: We will be sending Claire, our local Make-a-Wish kid, on a Disney cruise.
I hope this list gives you some more ideas for your auctions!
