The ULTIMATE Donation List

12 years 8 months ago #160454 by Rose H
A shout out to Merrr who posted yesterday a reminder of the preferred method to post on this tread. It really does help everyone! Here's a copy of Merr's post, which is copied from the original Ultimate Donation Post from more than 2 years ago!!

PLEASE:
1) Only list sources you have had success with.
2) If you have questions for a poster, please contact them directly - not through this thread. This thread is supposed to be a Listing.
3) Use the following format for your listing

COMPANY NAME
-- Mailing Address -or- URL for online form
-- How long it took you to get a response
-- What did the company donate?
-- Your comments

Thanks Merrr for reminding us!

I received one too. The foundation chair and I wrestled over whether to sell it; we eventually compromised as follows:

* we would not include it in either the silent or live auctions at the event, since we did not think that we'd get enough attention from bidders to the caveats and conditions.

* we would include it in our follow-up online auction, designed to clean up the unsold items from the main event, with the conditions and caveats clearly spelled out

* we would set the opening bid low ($40) so as to avoid signalling that this was more than it actually is

If you want to see the listing in our online auction (and feel free to copy my disclaimers, etc. if you do), send me a message, and I'll send you the link.

We got our certificate. It is for 5 days 4 nights. Person has to pay a $69 reservation fee and Mexican Government Tax (I assume that's like the US hotel tax). There is a sentence about an "optional" 90 presentation about the property and amenities. I assume a time-share pitch, but it does say optional. No transportation to the property. We have someone calling to pretend they won the certificate to see what other caveats they may add.

THis seems to be a concerning item that many receive so anyone with specific feedback about the redemption... please post for us.

Has anyone tried the Soaring Adventures of America Free Balloon Ride on their Silent Auction? I was wondering if it was legit or not. I don't want to put something out there for our auction if it is going to be a pain for the winner to redeem, or end up costing them a lot more when they go to use the certificate.

Thanks!

To the person who asked. For our event, volunteers go for free and faculty go for 50% off. We have some parentswho make donations to pay for faculty tickets. Since our volunteers go free, some pay for a faculty member to attend. They put names of faculty members in a "hat" to choose who goes free.

We got a yes from Panera Bread, Dick's Sporting Goods, Stampin Up, Green Mountain Coffee, Intrepid Air and Space Museum, NY Sky Ride, Medieval Times, Statue Cruises and Adventure Aquarium. A local pet shop donated some items and we will put that with a gift card from a local pet groomer and from a dog walker. Local bakeries and ice creams stores have been generous too. We have a couple of local jewelry stores that said they will donate an item. Not sure what yet.
