I was just trying to submit my request for a movie license for our September 9th movie night and I just noticed the site says the Free Planning kit will not be available until September. Does that mean we won't be able to have our movie night September 9th? We were using this as our kick-off event and we'll have to think of some other entertainment, quickly!!! Why can't I submit the same paperwork I received from my kit last year?
We are on our 5th annual movie night under the stars this year. We do an outdoor event so our license is much more $. We get about 500 people. The PTA does drinks, popcorn, cotton candy and food. We invite other non profits such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts etc. to do events or non competing food. We rent a screen this way a company comes out and takes care of it. We buy popcorn from a local movie theater for very little money. They pop it that day and we purchase boxes and sell it pre boxed. This year we had a ticket system so that money would be kept at one location and not at every table we host. This is a family event for our district so the idea is a zero dollar budget we try to make what we spend. I know most people do this inside but I would be happy to share more if anyone needs information. (FYI after some confusion we got our license and movie within 2 days) this goes through Swank but it's the same company so go ahead and call.
Kathleen,
Movie Licencing USA asks for 2 weeks to turn around the paperwork so you should be ok! What movie are you showing? If you have a chance, take photos of your event and share them on our Facebook page!
Will look into that service. What is the timeframe I should be looking at if I want to apply for such a license for my school for a particular event date (Aug. 13, 2011)? Is it too late to look into it on July 13, 2011? Thanks!
We had our first movie night last year. It was a complete disaster. We made sure parents were there with their children or another adult. We thought if their parent was there they would watch the movie. That did not help at all. Kids were running around everywhere. We have decided that IF we do it again, we will make it a parent night out with more "other parent" and teacher participation. That way the kids will be mind more.
