She got the cartilage piercing as part of her 13th birthday present. I really didn't have any concerns about it medically, she just has to remove it when she's either on the soccerfield or basketball court playing. She started asking for one when she was about 11, and I'd have taken her then, but my husband was adement(sp?) about waiting awhile. I should say, I have a cartilage piercing as well, and have had it for 15 years, so it wasn't a big deal to me. It made her feel very "grown up" and as part of being the oldest child of four, I was willing to allow her this "grown up" thing...she tolerates alot from her younger brothers and sister. I figure that when and if she gets tired of it, she'll take the earring out!
Soccermom - Sounds like our families are very in sync. I've got a 13 year old girl and 10 year old boy. I have to ask...
If she's asking for a diamond, does that mean she already had the piercing? How/when did that come about? Did you have any concerns?
My daughter currently has just the "standard" ear piercing - 1 hole in each ear lobe. She's begging for a piercing on the upper ear. For now, it's "no way" at our house, but I did say we'd re-evaluate if she still feels the same next year. I'd love to hear from you about your situation.
My 9 year old son's list:
New ATV
Fender Guitar (he's been playing for almost four years)
Soccer Jacket and pants (each set costs $130  )
Projection clock (puts the time on the ceiling)
--he's not really into video games, I guess I'm lucky!
New CD walkman
My 13 year old daughter's list (she has taste like her mom  !!!)
1. New Ugg boots
2. Diesel jeans (she has 4 pair; but needs more?!)
3. Digital camera or camera cell phone
4. Winter line of Coach purse (any or all of them)
5. Tennis bracelet
6. Diamond for cartilage piercing
7. Usual teenage stuff: CDs; movies; GC to the following:nail place; movie theatre;Sephora
Thank goodness my two youngest are still into toys...we hit Toys R US for a day or two and we're about done shopping for them.
I only have three things on my list:
1. 2005 Coach Lexus
2. Cruise to the Bahamas (every year I go with just the girls for four days/three nights...I want it to be extended to one full week)
3. New tennis racket (I play five days a week--I've re-strung and re-gripped my racket one too many times!)
Any suggestions as to what to get all of the people in our lives that make it so much easier? ie-cleaning lady; nail girl; massage therapist;hair stylist; personal trainer...
I've employed these people for years now, and I always give a yearly cash gift to them, but would also like to include something a little more personal than money. Any suggestions?
Originally posted by JHB: mykidsmom - On the CD clocks - I've seen them advertised with some of the Christmas circulars. Seems like the prices is $29.99 - $49.99. There's one at Circuit City for $29.99.
There's also a $40 one on Amazon. They have it on sale for $34 and then there's a $20 rebate - so makes it $14 (free shipping). I need to double check the rebate details, but if it looks doable, I'll probably order that one. www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00063RT.../102-6681627-0903317
Note - I was going to order the Amazon one a couple weeks ago, but at the time the website said backordered, shipping in January. Doesn't say that today, but I need to check it out.
January wouldn't be terrible as her birthday is at the end of the month! But as I posted...staight F's might get her REAL coal! I will check it out! Thank you!!!!
I just got off the phone (been on it- I swear!- for three days straight!) my son's second grade class lost a classmate this weekend....how do you assure your son that everything will be okay? Also have a message from the 8th Grade Team (how intimidating does that sound!) they would like to met with me about my daughter and her F's! EVERY CLASS! UGH! Looks like parental controls on the TV will be set higher (could hide the keyboard too....hhhhmmmmm).
Sorry to be the downer, been kinda that kind of week. Do have some fun stuff planned for Saturday.
