What about include composting (the vegatation from weeding/eating outside, etc) - and use the compost to help the surrounding plants. Great way to teach the kids about recycling.

Rain cistern with small aqueducts, maybe a solar or wind powered clock or meteological (weather) equipment, butterfly garden, adobe (or local indian tribe- material they'd use) oven with small cooking area (i.e herbal teas, hot cocoa, breads or bigger for pizza)
SOmething in conjunction with peanut growers (isnt VA like the capitol of peanut growers?) although that might get nixed because of allergies and such

Thanks CC--me too...I meet Tuesday with some of the teachers to come up with things for the math and science quad. Anyone have any fun ideas..? Must be weather sustainable...I'm thinking things like a big true north compass rose in the landscaping, garden plots for each grade where they can grow veggies and maybe sell them during their commerce phases, a fish pond where we can keep some koi and maybe raise some tadpoles, and perhaps some butterfly bushes and hummingbird draws so we can study the life cycles.
Always good to have a goal to raise the bucks...d
