Hubby is always reminding me that they're call mobil phones for a reason. I leave mine on the kitchen counter or in the car or with a dead battery somewhere. He thinks it should be constantly attached to me and always ready to take his call. He says, "What if I was in car wreck or something and needed your help?" I said he'd better call 911 instead. We got Shorty a cell phone last year when hubby's stalker got closer to the deep end. Now that he's in middle school the phone comes in handy because he has to stay after for activities. Then he can just call me when he's done and needs to be picked up. Otherwise he rarely uses it.
Spring Break here this week. Hubby is working from home and Shorty is off school so we should get lots of fun family time in. Hubby said if he'd know it was Spring Break he would've planned a trip for us. I said I think it'll be nice to just hang around here and not have to do anything. He doesn't do well with idle time so we'll see how it works out!

Oh Scott--I completely agree with the whole cell phone thing! My monster (I mean mother) in law has been complaining because I don't keep mine on unless the boys are at school. I told her my cell phone was for my convenience, not anyone else's. She looked at me like I was insane. If it wasn't for the fact that I am constantly on I-75 back and forth to school, about 45 minutes away from the boys, I probably wouldn't even have one. It makes me nutty to see all these kids with them too. Our next door neighbor is in 4th grade and has one. He has no reason, just to call his buddies. Now don't get me wrong, those are great for parents with custody issues and the kids can easily call home or the other parent. It is the "just because" kids with cell phones that is crazy to me.
Anyway, mil HAD to go to Mall of GA, which is about 1 1/2 hours away. Just HAD to go to that one. Now, it is nice and big and has a huge selection of stores. Except, she only went in Macy's and Belks. In 4 hours! and bought NOTHING!!! The kiddos were miserable, hubby was miserable, I was miserable. It was a VERY LONG DAY! She leaves tomorrow!
yummo--chocolate chip cookies..well my baby had his tonsils out Friday...he is a rock...jumped up on the table, put on the little mask, woke up and ate an icepop and walked out to the car. By 2 pm he was on the playstation. Of course days 2, 3 and 4 are tougher now that his throat is healing up from the cauterization...but he's still doing incredibly well. I cannot imagine nursing his dad through something like this...I'd be running around all over the place trying to comfort him. So we've been homebound a couple of days.
Finished the Star Wars movies..it is so cool that at the end now (I just bought #6) that they have the Anikan from the first three movies in the last scene. I wonder what other editing they did to make it all fit. I remember in the original when Darth Vadar appears at the end he is a older actor, but now it's the actor that plays Anikan as a young man before he "turns to the dark side". And NOW they're going to do another Indiana Jones!!!...Looked for those this weekend at target to start that "screening" but no luck. I'm sure they'll be back out soon...
Harrison Ford is getting up there though so it'll be interesting to see how they handle him as the "old guy"...
Scottmom, you should be very proud of your son ~ Honor roll and citizenship award! Smart and well behaved!!! Awesome! And I agree about the cell phone. I am also one of those moms who only uses it for emergencies. It is only on when I am out and about during the day so that if the school needs to reach me they can (or if I have an emergency). I am glad we have cell phones, but at the same time I too hate to see how dependent everyone has become on them. We were out at the park yesterday playing and having a great time ~~ but every where I looked, I saw a parent (and teenagers) on a cell phone. Oh well, I had fun chasing the little ones and going down the slides not worrying about a phone.
Hope everyone had a wonderful St. Patricks day and didn't get too many pinches if you weren't wearing green. My son got on a pinching craze and so it didn't matter if you had green on or not. He would pinch and laugh and run onto the next person. Oh to be 5 again!
It is a gloomy, rainy day today so the kids and I have been baking cookies and muffins to take to the teachers tomorrow (a little welcome back treat after Spring Break ~ ). I like to bake so I try to take a little something up whenever I can. It is a small way for me to say Thanks for the wonderful job they do. And on some days, you just need a chocolate chip cookie to make it through, if you know what I mean?!
We live in an instant gradification world no matter the subject (communication, toys, food, clothes etc). Many kids do not know the meaning of saving & earning something. "So and so has it" therefore I have to have it and my parents will get it for me. Second on my pet peeve list, can go hand in hand with instant gradification at times, is taking advantage of a situation or person.
