We didn't have food at the one we did in the fall, but this one is in conjunction with a game night and we're serving food too. Nothing fancy, just pizza and pop.
We held our book exchange in conjunction with a family event. We have another coming up soon. We just set up tables in the common area where everyone enters the building. We sorted the books by reading level as best we could so people wouldn't have to dig too much.
Our books are on a rolling cart and we position it one day in the area for the K-2 and one day in the 3-5. Children are allowed to come to swap books before classes start at 9. They just continue swapping books..we don't know if we get back the book they swapped out or not but it seems to work well...all the start up books were donated.. and now e have over 300 on the cart (and could probably use another cart frankly...d

Where do you hold the book swap? We have a library but we don't use it. We have a parent room that we do use. It is a empty when we aren't using it. Do the children keep the books or do they just keep swapping them?
