I admit that this could have been a misunderstanding if it weren't for the fact that I sent an e-mail to three people requesting information for a report I was preparing. I was contacted by the President who was furious I had not gotten Principals approval to send e-mail.
I was also repremanded in our last meeting by his assistant for emailing out an agenda without approval.
Whenever we send out a back-pack flier, we must first have it approved by the principal. This is not unreasonable, IMO...
As well, if we need to contact the teachers about something, we send it to the principal and she forwards it to the teachers...again, not unreasonable...
I see NO REASON why the principal would need to be seeing, basically, communications between members. And since no reason was given in the first thread, I suspect that the poster is in error...sorry!
Just to add another voice.... there's *got* to be more to this story.
This principal seriously proposed approving every email *between* PTO members???? Are you sure he/she wasn't proposing approving every PTO email that goes out *to the whole school*?
While I would try to find a compromise even for the latter, the former is downright loony.
I'd go to the one in Chicago - sister-in-law lives there so I could multi-task.
I agree with <unreg> about the rampant misuse of email but that's not really any different than the verbal gossiping that's gone on since the beginning of time. Well, since the time that there were more than three women on the planet at the same time anyway.....

CrewChief, might we ever meet at a ptotoday conference? . ( i'd go to the one in MA
I guess because we are " seasoned" and know the best way isn't to get mad... but to comply.. with an agenda. It works every time. Just like addressing those folks who complain about the job we do! I LOVE saying " thanks so much for your vaild points, can I count on you to chair this event next year, so that it can be run in a more efficient manner?"
