What to do on the tightest of budgets

We do several "bring your own" dinners throughout the year and sometimes provide cookies for dessert. Then, various staff members and/or PTO members will do read alouds or line dance activities with the students in the gym. It's little or no cost and everyone loves it.

Does it have to be an "event" or can it just be a little something? Our PTA has really worked at doing things for all students this year. At halloween time we had an evening event. We knew all the students would not be able to attend. So, we gave out suckers to all the students that day. At Christmas time we bought mini candy canes for all the students. For Valentines day we sent home little bags of jelly beans with all the students.

We stick stickers on them that have a little message from PTA. We have used Oriental trading for most of the candy. Except the candy canes. I was able to get them at Walmart for $10- for 400 of them!

McDonalds will let you use their 5 gal. drink cooler but they require a $ 20. deposit that you get back when you return it. Each juice jug makes one 5 gal. drink cooler. The juice usually costs about $7.50 but if you ask, they usually donate the juice & give you cups, too. I've used them a lot for school & hockey functions. Good luck. Keep smiling!!

The Otis Spunkmeyer cookies you were referring to the ones already baked or the ones where you get the oven and bake them yourself?

Regarding drinks for any event...McDonald's lets out there orange drink containers for free. You just need to buy their orange drink...and it's only about $6 to make enough to fill the containers twice. It's been a while since our school has used them, so the price may be a little higher. The kids love the juice and it's really inexpensive.
For any event...ask around for donations. We've had donations from Frito-Lay, Polar Beverages, Otis Spunkmayer(great cookies!)to name a few. All they can do is say no. And they very rarely do!
Good Luck~!

The principal's idea is for us to pay for those bouncy things for kids. We can't on our budget. We have asked what do you want on more than one occassion. That was the only thing that was mentioned from that end. I'm so tired now that I really just want to leave it alone. Mykidsmom outspokeness only gets you the COLD shoulder and non-communication of all things. I'm going to drop back and let the other officer take a crack at it. This is one year that I will be glad when its over. My kids art is in a file cabinet. We rotate stuff into it. Thanks everyone for being a shoulder to lean of because this year I really needed it.
