What to do on the tightest of budgets

We received a memo stating no candy to be sold by our organization. We have had two bake sales that had so-so success. The parents are finally doing a little better with dues. I'm trying to think of something besides bake sales to break the monotony.

HI Pres needs help, here is an idea, if it is not too late.

Have a snack or candy sale, or bake sale, during lunch hours for a small fee, by 5th graders

Idea: Make little flowers out of candy suckers or candy treat bags to be delivered to classmates. Make a flyer to be sent out and sell them for .25 or .50 cents and then let 5th graders orgnaize them and assemble the candy with the messages attatched to be delivered to classmates during school. parents can buy or other students!! Look for candy sales and use cheap baggies!!!
Thanks for being a concerned parent that just wants things to be nice, this is refreshing to see. bye

tryinhard...check with your local skating rink. We always do a school wide skate at the end of the year to reward the students and families for helping us all year long. Our school has 400 students. Because we rent the entire rink, students and their families can attend. Good Luck!

Does your school have a popcorn machine? We use our schools for movie night and pay them $20 for the popcorn, oil, etc. Our McDonalds doesn't charge anything for the igloos, drink or cups! We can even get coffee, creamers, sugars, etc if needed.
I like the read-in idea. You could ask local "clebrities" to read to the children also. For example, the mayor, a doctor wearing his scrubs or lab jacket, the fire chief in uniform, chief of police in uniform, president of the BOE, the principal, etc.
We have done a family event where we paid for the event and in our flier asked that if they could, each family bring a snack to share, we provide the beverage (McDonalds). The response was great. Most people stop by the dollar store and grab graham crackers or a pack of cookies. We had too much almost.

We had our bake sale today. 1 parent donated. The officers put in the rest. It is not easy getting parent participation at our school. The money was to go to an activity for the 6th grade. We tried getting the parents to pay dues. 5 parents paid. What do I do now?

Regana anything we do for the children must be prepackaged. Bring your own dinners is definitely out. The problem is the school always puts something together as soon as we announce that we want to do something. If we ask for a fundraiser the school will do one a week before and after. We always ask what is going on before we put in our request. Right after we put in a request you look on the board and there will be three for the school. I feel like I'm climbing Mt. Everest. I'm tired after 7 months of crap.
