As many of you know, I was our group prez for the 2001-2002 school year. And as you may remember, I had a lot of issues with our then veep that are still unresolved (not by me, I'm just too dang happy a person to hang on to all that anger...lol...). I lost the election for the 2002-2003 school year because of a fixed election and lack of support from our staff during the election night (being close to the end of the school year, elections were not the top priority of many staff members).
I am the current Site Council prez, but the term is a two year term and I have served two years and must take a break.
Here is my dilema: No one wants to be prez or veep for the upcoming school year. I mean absolutely no one. The principal, her secretary and I brainstormed about who would be good in either position as my running again didn't seem like a good option due to the unresolved issues within our group.
Tonight, I received a call from a member of our board. I have been asked to step up again as prez. By doing so, several members will leave (the veep of my term is the current veep and will not stay). Total loss would be about 4 members. Membership is down to about 10 people now (It was about 10 when I became prez, but it was close to 60 strong when I left). Her call and proposition came as a shock, but as she pointed out, it doesn't seem right that 4 people should be why I don't step up and do for our group what I did in 2001-02.
I should point out that while many, many good things were accomplished during my term, I ended up with a bad taste in my mouth and a horrible reputation as a dictator (boy, is that an understatement!).
My strengths are the ability to accomplish a task no matter what, the ability to improve membership, to run above average income earning fundraisers, to put forth a voice of parents who cannot attend meetings, to successfully utilize those same parents (where were they when I needed their votes...lol...), to organize committees, make sure all children benefit, honesty, integrity and a stick-to-it-ness that is uncompromising. I am familiar with how the school works, the district works, and how the bylaws work. I am a full time volunteer at the school, so everyone already knows me- students and staff alike.
My weak points are: a stick-to-it-ness that is uncompromising, the inability to back off when I know I'm right (kind of like God help me when I'm wrong, God help you when I'm right...lol...), I truly do work better alone, I micromanage everything...lol..., and whereas I'm great with kids, I'm not always great with adults when it comes to getting things done. I expect those around me to work hard, but I never expect anyone to do anything I wouldn't myself do.
So... What do you think? Do I run again?
(OMG!!! Am I really considering this again? I am, I am!)
