A little update on our nominations. We had our meeting last night and 3 of our 5 Board seats needed to be filled. (The 3 of us leaving have been board members for 4-5 years! time to go)Having lit the fire with some notices that we might have to disband, we did receive 3 nominations for the seats being vacated. I know that if I did not go that route there would be no nominations. I fact, I only knew of one nominee. The other two were only made known to me that night.
Phew...I must say I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into our H SA (lots of great changes and meeting attendance that doubled) and I was worried it would all fall by the wayside.... I can now rest in peace...lol - and know that I did good things for the kids of our schools. [img]smile.gif[/img]
Okay, the poem is cute and the verbage is right on the money for those involved heavily in their PTO. However, I remember reading an article last year in the PTO Today Magazine regarding the different types of PTO involvement. There are the heavy-hitters of a PTO, ie., Executive Board Members, Fundraising and Committee Chairs. But what we tend to forget in the PTO scenario are the "behind the scene" players. These would be the reader, math, spelling, copy, bulletin board, baking, classroom party, field trip, etc. moms/dads that we tend to never see. That said, all parents/legal guardians are members of our PTO. Sometimes you see them, sometimes you don't. Regardless of their involvement, big or small, parents are busy and choices are made. Let's give credit where credit is due! By the way, I'm one of the heavy-hitters!
Another 3 cents worth: What I want to add to all this is that we have over 85 volunteers helping this year. We do not have a shortage in that department usually - sometimes we do. In fact, we are having a "Volunteer Dessert Fest" this year honoring our great volunteer base. This is the first time an acknowledgement has been made of this kind. Bravo yeah and all that good stuff. We also do the fun stuff but when no one wants to step up into the board positions, what do you do? Sure you can have lots of great volunteers during the year as we do, but if no one fills the board seats you are done! -sometimes you need to light the fire. And... it has worked for us.

Sorry Guys...tend to agree with Tim on this. I have actually read this a few months ago and my first thoughts was that it was a huge dig to all of the people who aren't involved. Then i felt that it was saying that "we " were better than others because we step up and volunteer. I did at the time run it by my principal and without a word from me she turned it down. I have found in my two years that fun family oriented events and truly trying to welcome everyone works. Our old pta had 4 members and about seven volunteers, we have grown to over 45 regular(die hards)we have had a total of over 75 volunteers help this year ...some people can only volunteer once a year , but they still get treated the same.It is a long road but I still try to make sure people feel appreciated and needed ...even if it is only a hour =)
