Just an idea, when we need to get items copied or clipped or packaged etc, our Special Education teacher offers to help, because it helps her students with motor skills etc. They put togehter our cookbooks last year and make copies when ever I need some. :D

We have never really had a Box Top cooridinator since I've been there. Our Family Resouce Center lady has been doing this for us. Our Family Resource is a distict funded so they really have nothing to do with our PTO. I've tried to get someone else to it, because I am swamped, and I want to give other mom's or dad's to something. One mom said she we be glad to do it, that was before Thanksgiving, we haven't seen her since.

The parent that originally started having the program, along with her husband, made a box top buggy out of cereal boxes and thin paneling. It is really neat. The kids like to open the lids and put their box tops in it. Since we have that our FRC lady trims on them a little every day in her office, I encourage volunteers to help her this makes it less chaotic, especially since we are probably going to have around 10,000. We are very greatful for our FRC lady for doing this for us, even though it doesn't benefit her any.

I have a twist for you. I have been chair for getting snacks etc for the kids that are taking the state testing this month, something I have done for four years now. I asked the Moms I know to help and the testing cordnator at school CALLED THEM OFF!!! She turned away all six of my helpers and told them we (yeah, me and her) would be fine!! SO right now I am trying to figure out how to get everyone to school (my sitter had to bail too) and how to distribute 560 snacks in an hour...alone.

Don't worry, the teachers are very upset and are on my side (they had to "call off" the Moms that offered to bring food and drinks!). Just plain crazy. I will be talking to the Principal when testing is complete, I can't now, too much needs to be done and I really don't need to complicate my working relationship (or rather volunteer relationship) with this person.

At any rate, I also need to get a pack of gum tommorrow when I get gas...gotta keep my mouth shut somehow!!!

Oh, it's nice to not feel alone! I have person who signed up to chair our spring carnival. She took the layout I had from last year, assigned the games and sent a couple notes to parents about setting their games up. That's it! She found no one for the raffle, bake shop, or restaurant, or game ticket sales. I had to find people or am just coordinating the events myself. She did the same thing last year and I thought we were now clear on what that position entails so it wouldn't happen again, but here we are! As President, I expect to jump in when things are going right, but I didn't plan on having to run the show. I told my husband, if she volunteers for anything next year, we should tell her "thanks but no thanks". She does fine on small projects, but she NEVER finishes anything big. It's a pain. I especially felt bad for the dad who came to the last meeting because his wife had to work. The game they ahd been assigned needed som modification and I know that this gal had told me she would take care of it. She completely denied it at the meeting and I had to ask the dad if he thought they could handle it. He was so nice about it, but I felt horrible. I will call her with some of the ideas some other moms gave me for the modifications and of course, my offer to help. Thank goodness, I've served my two terms and can't be elected again--next year I can rest a little.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

I know how you feel. Our T-shirt chairman baled after leaving a huge mess. After we got the invoice, we found that we hadn't charged enought to cover our costs although she assured us that she had taken sales tax and shipping and other costs into account. Then we she ran out of sizes (I guess she ordered incorrectly), she just gave the next available size with no note or anything. Then when the shirts started coming back, she was nowhere to be found. I called every night, but there was never an answer. I even caught her at school and told her the problem. Never called me back. She now avoids me, but no one forced her to volunteer. That's my venting!!!

The chairperson for the Box Top labels baled recetly. She said that she was "overwhelmed" and could I and a couple friends help cut and bundle some Box Top labels. Her daughter then brought in the years worth of Box Top labels to the school. Needless to say a few of us moms have been cutting and bundling these labels like crazy to make the March 31st deadline. This person is not on my happy list. She could have asked for help long before now, or she could have stepped down long before now. Instead she has baled on the 11th hour leaving us "overvolunteered" moms to pick up the load. It would have been better if she had not chaired this in the first place if she couldn't handle it. I feel better now that I have vented a little. Smile.
