Way to Go! Scooby-Doo! Rally up all of your supporters and friends and make sure they are at the meeting when the elections are held. It sounds like several of the parents who attend the meetings know what is really going on with the current president and they feel that you have the childrens' best interest in mind. Best wishes to you and let us all know how the election goes.

Wow!!, I read through all of the responses and there has been some really good advice rendered.

I was attracted to this discussion because I have been faced with the same exact thing - PTO President being rude and ill-mannered toward the parents. She feels good about it and has not remorse.

With that in mind, I determined that the way to defeat a person like that was to force them to operate within the guidelines of the by-laws. Our pres thinks President is synonomous with dictorship. The bylaws is suppose to give remedy to that way of thinking. Thus far, it has worked.

But I had to incorporate the use of the bylaw with staying strong, staying focus, reaching out to all the other parents and board memebers who shared my feelings. --They actually felt that way before I did - it took me longer to wake because, I give people the benefit of the doubt - until they show me different.

I am currently the secretary. I, too, have been nominated to the office of President. Our President "decided" that she was going to be president again, even though her daughter is graduating, and she will not have a child at the school. That's power hungry.

I am so hopeful that you will become your child's school next PTO President. There is a shortage of parents willing to work and participate on boards. So when you have those who will participate and work with others on an adult-sensible level, then your school can really grow.

My efforts have paid off - not because of the nomination, but because of the her defeat. The way I defeated her is because several people recognized all my efforts and my STAND against her absolute rule. There is strength is numbers.

In summary, the answer is to Stay Strong and Stay Focused and Always remember that there is strength in numbers. Good Luck, God be with you and you the school. MHS

Good Luck Scooby Doo! I too am nominated for President of our PTO for the first time. I am currently treasurer. We only had to deal with a very temperamental (sp?) vice-president who nominated herself last year!! And because no one spoke up, she automatically became an officer. The year has been difficult. We did re-write our by-laws to include a clause on mis-conduct and what steps to follow if anyone feels an officer (or member) is out of line. We had an incident last summer with this vice-president but we had not re-written the by-laws yet so couldn't really do anything but deal with her. (She is not running again thank heavens!)If you have good supporters Scooby Doo hang in there and I am sure you'll do great!

Thank you PTO Queen!! You guys make me feel so special!! Always! Actually, I recently had to retype the by-laws,(we added a few this year), and it states that members shall be elected by popular vote via secret ballot. Believe me, I have been telling everyone what a good president I will make!! Especially since she just sprung on the parents that they have to pay $.75 per kid for a special event that the PTO has paid for to reward the kids at the end of the year.We have paid for it every year since it started. I even had one parent say she was gonna stand outside the school with a sign for me for president!! I had 10 parents ready to nominate me before I left the school yesterday. I do hope they all remember to vote!! Thank you all for being my support, since our PTO right now couldn't care less!! I will let you know whats going on!! ;)

Dear Scooby doo- Congratulations, now get on the at phone and call everyone you know. Do not speak harshly about that hag just say why you what to be president. Also ask them to spread the word that you are very, very, interested in the position. Also, check those by-laws we discovered that our bylaws stated that the actual voting had to take place at the meeting. If this is true in our case, first be very, very, quite and ask everyone you know (including teachers) to make a special effort to attend! Good Luck!
