A Secretary That Does Nothing!

Yes, that is our next plan of action. To have a meeting with only the board members and ask her what she feels her roles are suppose to be and worse case ask her to step down. Where can I read this Robert's Rules of Order at? I would really like to educate myself on this.

Good idea to vent here ... then have the private conversation Jewel3 suggests when you're in a calmer mood and not likely to get her on the defensive. Here are the facts, please submit your resignation.

It would be in your PTO's best interest for you to become familiar with Robert's Rules of Order, particularly the chapter about disciplinary procedures. This section provides valuable information on properly terminating a board member who, because of their actions, is harming the overall health of the organization.

In the meantime, I suggest that you have a private conversation with her about how her actions are inappropriate, a violation of the by-laws, and are disrupting and inconveniencing the PTO. Then, ask for her resignation. If she refuses to give it, follow the Robert's procedures to have her removed so that you can nominate/elect a replacement for the remainder of this one's term.

I am sorry your dealing with this. I feel your pain. Last year our secretary showed up for 2 meetings and never showed up again though she said she would. So I was doing both the president and secretary jobs.

We hope to elect a new one at our meeting this week.

Our PTO only has 4 board members, President, VP, Treasury (Me) and our secretary..and I use that as a very loose term. This lady does nothing in the way of a secretary. She doesn't take minutes at meetings..if she even shows up! She doesn't type up the Newsletter that we send out weekly, she doesn't own a computer nor will take the time to go to the library or the school to do this. The main thing she has been doing is coming in on Fridays with me and our VP to run on Friday Snacks, which is our biggest money maker. Well she has completely bailed the last couple Friday's and this past Friday she completely dropped the ball. She told us Thursday that she would be there no problem, well Friday when she hadn't shown up, I called and she said she didn't feel like coming in which really left us in a bad situation. Luckly some parents that happen to be helping in the school that day stepped in and really helped us alot. I'm completely fustrated about the whole thing. My views are she can't and doesn't really do anything that falls under her PTO title and really only uses the PTO to come to events without paying for tickets or food for her and her family. I would hate to leave us as a 3 man team but at the same time, what the heck does she do anyways other than work SOMETIMES when it is convenient for her. I understand that PTO is a full time non paying job but come on! When you tell people you are going to be there, then I believe that you should. I guess I don't really need any advice..course it's most welcome, I'm really just venting!
