I agree with most here--- co- anything except treasurer just doesn't work -- there are too many items that come up and need a decision made on them...
Even co-treasurers don't always work, but our by-laws state that has to be 2.
We have had vice-presidents in the past wanting to run as co-presidents-- caused fighting and ruined a friendship in the process-- is not worth it at all-- there's too many over volunteer positions that can be filled to worry about putting to good people in the same position. Board members are going to meet with her and ask her not to run for president next year for the greater good of the PTO. We will see what her reaction is.
The really sad thing is we have essentially frozen her out of all committee work til the end of the year. All chairpeople were told that they should go to the other co-president or VP's for information, help and advise. We are all in PTO Burnout mode and no one has the energy to deal with any more drama.

Ugh! One of the worst experiences of my life was trying to be a PTO co-president. A friend and I took it on together one year when they couldn't get anyone. I know it works for some, but not for us. Almost ruined our friendship. There were just too many decisions that needed to be made on the fly, then someone would be out of the loop or feel they weren't consulted. Never again (for me).

If you don't have a viable way to prevent her from running, can everyone agree that the co-pres situation didn't work (without assigning blame). If each runs solo, surely the right one will win.

I'd have no problem saying that I found it not to be effective. And my co-pres was great. We were both great - but not together. If you can't block HER, maybe you can block the idea of co-presidents.

Even if they are still running as co presidents that doesn't mean she has to be voted in. Same as luvmykids said if she isn't doing her job then she shouldn't be voted for or maybe someone else would be willing to run against her.
I am surprised that as co presidents you are having problems most of the time I would think that they are friends and would work well together.
In our bylaws you can only run as co presidents if its mutually agreed upon.

If you have an election, and this person is as bad as you say, who would vote for her? Surely they are not considering doing the "co-president thing" again?! I say let her run and just make sure to campaign for the other person.

Essentially, how do you fire a volunteer?
Long story short... 2 co-presidents, Pres.1 has been a nightmare. So much so that every committee head has run away screaming. No one who currently chairs a committee will re-up next year if this woman comes back to exec. board. Pres.2 has been peacemaker and by her own words, has had to put out fires and cleaned up messes all year long. Both want to become president next year but ideally, it would be in everyones best interest if Pres.1 didn't run at all.
Please don't judge me about this post. I may sound like a witch but trust me, there is way too much back story to write about on this message board.
