Thanks, myself and a few others have thought about that but are kinda afraid. We just raised 42,000.00 at our auction and it's going to buy laptop computers. I would hate to think that we might stand to lose that $!! I guess we have to do waht we have to do to get things back on the straight and narrow!! Thanks for your input I will consider the action.
How about playing the "tax" card? I'll bet that the IRS trumps a super and Board of Ed. If a tax-exempt organization does not follow the rules, it may lose its tax exempt status. This can mean penalties for the organization and liability for federal and state income taxes. In my area, one parent got fed up with bad behavior from a "booster" group and reported the mis-behavior to the IRS. The $35,000 fine imposed by the IRS seemed to correct the problem. Perhaps "discussing" some general tax exemption rules and requirements with the Principal and the PTO Board may help restore order and discipline to the unruly bunch.
Well with the principal and this board rigging elections and doing what they please it is going to be hard for any new blood to get into this group unless these parents come out in masses to cry foul at their meetings. Yes, you should speak to the Super and also go to your next Board of Ed meeting and speak to them as well. The higher ups are going to need to get involved to make this principal and PTO board get in line and follow procedure.
I agree With PTOMOM, new blood will your best bet. Then you can do it the way it should be ran, for the children. And as I agree with going to the superintindent, it depends on if they choose to get involved or not. Or at least, that's what I was told. You may get some help there though. But best of luck and get some new and fresh blood who wants to be involved!
What they really need to realize is that when something goes wrong and bylaws arent followed the board can be sued personally. It happen at our school about 6 years ago. Your best bet is to get some new blood in there asap. Rally caps.
