You could always use the technique I remember teachers using in class when people were chatting or passing notes while they were lecturing: Smile sweetly and ask them if they had a comment or some information on the topic they wanted to share.
I have issues with 2 board members, and when I address the issues they act as if I am not entitled.
I try my best as a new parent and new president (my first child is only in 1st) to do a good job. I feel that I have been very successful at bringing people to gether and to the meetings. Alot of the parents havent been involved in years. My 2 members are just rude and insist that members are not always entitles to there own ideas. Unless they like the idea they seem to just knock it down. I feel they are just ruining all the work I have been doing to pull new members and create teamwork. They disrespect me in front of the members during our meetings. At our last meeting my vp kept pushing me to move on to the next topic by reading the agenda to me after each topic ended. (mind you our meetings last for less then a hour) When i turned to her and politely and queitly said to her I know how to read she stopped talking to me period.
Mind you her and the treasurer talk and past notes in front of the members during the meeting and are very distractive. When I try to mention to them they need to chill out the shhhh me.
I am not the type of person to be pushed around but I seem not to get through to them. They are simply bullies and I am sick of sitting back and letting it go on. Any suggestions other then me finally flipping my lid, which is typically donr by me by now. But i feel we all need to be professional as a board.
