This should not be allowed. The fact that she would only allow a few hours for people to respond (when people may not even be aware of the email) and then consider no response to be a yes vote is completely and totally shady and unethical. People would need to be aware of the email and need to be given a substantial amount of time to respond for this to be legit. Also no response from someone should not be considered a yes or a no....no response she be considered abstaining as they did not cast a vote. Furthermore to say that in the end the exec. board has the final say regardless is even more unethical and renders any vote useless. There is no way I would stand for this at all even if I were in favor of the item being voted on.
Bylaws should also be given to anyone who wants to see them. ASK FOR THEM. You and any other parent has the right to see them.
Our PTO President sent out an email stating she was taking a "vote" on spending $1400 for our school. This was supposed to go out to all PTO members, but since there are no dues, isn't that all the parents in the school? Anyways, she stated that if she received no response by 3 p.m. the day she sent it out that would be considered a "yes" vote but if you chose to vote no then you must include the reason why and then it would only be taken into consideration. Then she basically stated the exec. board would have the final say. Since our by laws were last done in 1987 and no one has ever had a chance to see them, we are unsure of how to approach this. Is this appropriate? Very curious. Does anyone else take votes via email? Any help would help!!!
